Jacob Matthew
Cantrell
February 13, 1997 – October 19, 2022
Jacob Matthew Cantrell passed away on October 19, 2022 at the age of 25. Jacob was born on February 13,1997 in Plano, TX to Jerel Cantrell and Suzanne Cantrell Campbell. He was always their special Valentine's Day gift from God. He grew up in McKinney, TX where he graduated from Boyd High School in 2015. While in school, he loved the time he spent playing football for the Broncos and cherished the memories he made with his teammates.
Jacob attended the University of Alabama and received his bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies. While in college, he was able to study abroad for a year in Barcelona, Spain. This was the highlight of his college career. While there, he traveled to Italy, England, Croatia, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Morocco, and over 26 countries in total. He saw many amazing sights along the way and made wonderful memories to cherish.
Jacob was very passionate about sports. Throughout his life he played many sports, including soccer, basketball, track and football. Some of his athletic accomplishments were learning to dunk the basketball as a 7th grader, being first in district in the 4x4 meter race, and scoring a touchdown in the playoff game against Fossil Ridge at Cowboy Stadium. Even at a young age, he had a vast knowledge of players and their history. He could quote statistics and knew the ins and outs of each team in the league. While football was his favorite sport, he was an avid basketball and soccer fan, and had recently taken up playing golf.
Animals were another one of Jacob's passions. He loved all kinds of animals, but he especially had a heart for stray dogs and stopped many times to help them find their way home. He adopted his own sweet dog, Bleecker, from a shelter. He and Bleecker spent many hours on long walks and tossing the ball at the dog park.
Jacob loved being outdoors and was very active. He enjoyed snowboarding, hiking and being at the lake or the beach. He cherished his time in Colorado at his grandparents' house in the mountains, and looked forward to spending every 4th of July there surrounded by his family and friends.
Jacob is survived by his parents, Jerel Cantrell of Dallas, Suzanne Campbell and husband Jack of Celina, siblings, Jackson and Elizabeth Cantrell, grandmothers, Jane Cantrell and Lynda Ayers of Sherman, his loving aunts, uncles and cousins, and his dog, Bleecker. He also leaves behind many friends who loved him dearly. Jacob was preceded in death by his loving grandfathers, Jerry Cantrell and Tom Ayers, who most certainly met him at Heaven's Gates with open arms.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to ask that donations be made to the Go Fund Me account that will help to set up a memorial fund for scholarships and charity donations in Jacob's name.
