Obituary

JAMES "JIM" KNIGHT

Jim was born February 24, 1934 in Youngstown, Ohio. He died September 25, 2010, at Bellbrook Cottage in Pottsboro after a courageous fourteen-year battle with Alzheimers Disease.

He was raised by step-grandparents Olga and Justin Georgeson on a farm in Maddock, North Dakota. They both preceded him in death.

Jim joined the U.S. Navy after high school and became a parachute rigger.

He earned his Bachelors and Masters Degrees and Teaching Credential from San Diego State University and taught junior and senior high school math for thirty years in San Diego, California.

He married Betty McCoy Bartlett on August 7, 1976 in San Diego, California.

He and Betty moved to Sherman, Texas in June 1999.

Survived by his wife and best friend Betty of Sherman, daughter Katie Knight , her husband Marty Fassler and their children Emma Michelle and Jared James of Oakland, California; daughter Laura Doyle and her daughter Kayla Jamie of Temecula, California; step-son Dave Bartlett of San Diego, California; sister Ruth Cox and her husband Allan of Lakewood, California; sisters in-law and brothers in-law Shirley and Charles Canady of Whitesboro; Maudie and Leon Moss of Haslet; Joann and Bill Terry of Gordonville; Gene and Barbara McCoy of Sacramento, California; Gwen Trott of Sherman; numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim loved everyone and everyone loved Jim! His favorite expression was "Life is Good!" and quoted it often until Alzheimers Disease took him far away from family and friends. He will be remembered as someone fun to be with, someone who was very smart, but sensible, never made or had an enemy, always tried to see the best in everyone and every thing. He was a loving husband, and the best dad and granddad ever.

The family would like to thank the Texoma Area Time Out Program and its volunteers for the years of helping Jim. Also thanks to Sheila and Phil Johnson at Bellbrook Cottage in Pottsboro and Always Better Care Hospice for their compassionate care.

Family night will be at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman on Monday from 6:00-8:00 p.m. The register book can be signed online at waldofuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Nora Habal, Texoma Senior Citizens Foundation, 1117 Gallagher, Sherman, TX 75090.

He will be greatly missed by family and many old friends in San Diego and new friends in Texas.
