IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Ronald
Long
October 30, 1944 – April 17, 2025
James Ronald Long (Jim) passed peacefully into the presence of God on Thursday, April 17,2025. Jim was born on October 30,1944 in Paris, TX to Addis and Virginia Dell (Pruett) Long. He graduated from Whitesboro High School, then went to Grand Prairie where he achieved his degree in Respiratory Therapy, a career he enjoyed in Sherman and McKinney Hospitals until his retirement in 2007.
On August 18,1972, Jim married the love of his life, Cynthia Harris, a nurse originally from Featherstone, England. Both Jim and Cynthia enjoyed entertaining friends, listening to music, and traveling with family and friends around the country, as well as in England. Jim enjoyed playing his guitars with friends. He was known for his savory grilled steaks and hamburgers, as well as his delicious homemade salsa. Jim loved to fish and take friends out in his Striper boat to fish (even though he didn't like to eat fish), but he lovingly sold his boat in order for him and Cynthia to build their home in Sherman, TX. Later in life, Jim enjoyed calculating horse racing odds, using complex algorithms on his computer, which he then utilized when he went to Winstar.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, and by Cynthia, his loving wife of 46 years. He is survived by his sisters-in law and brothers in-law, Jennie Barker (Colin), Brenda Wager (Tommy), loving nephews and nieces, Richard Barker (Tamzin), Cathy Preston (Robert), Stephen Wager(Julie), Mark Wager (Stephanie), great nieces and nephews Ryan, Laura, Kate, Amy, Faye, Naomi, & Leah, Pruett cousins, as well as his and Cynthia's friends of many decades, who over the years became family to each other. He will be greatly missed.
Jim will be laid to rest at Oakwood Cemetery in Whitesboro TX beside his wife, Cynthia, and his parents. There will be a celebration of Jim's life at Waldo Funeral Home Chapel on Friday May 2 at 2PM. In lieu of flowers, you may send a donation to Bright Focus Alzheimer's Research in Jim's memory if you wish.
