IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janis Jane
Schulz
April 4, 1947 – August 14, 2025
Janis Jane Bush Schulz, 78 years old of Denison, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2025, at Carrus Hospital Hospice after a long illness. She was born April 4, 1947, to Ella and J.D. Bush of Sherman. She graduated from Sherman High School in 1965 and Grayson College in 1967. While attending college, she met the love of her life, Ron Schulz. They were married on April 8, 1967, at Grand Avenue Church of Christ in Sherman. They were married for 58 wonderful years and had two sons and four grandchildren.
Jane was very active in Cub Scouting and was not only awarded the Silver Beaver Award but was the first female, at the time, to receive it. The Silver Beaver Award is the pinnacle of recognition in the Boy Scouts of America. The award honors adult leaders and supporters who have made extraordinary contributions to youth development on the council level.
Jane was an Elder at Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church and served as Clerk of the Session; upon finishing her service, she was named Clerk Emerita. She performed many roles in the Texoma Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America, was past President of Grayson Home Hospice, and Grayson County Historical Association.
Jane worked part-time at Kirby Grocery Store while attending Sherman High School and was a teacher's aide at several Sherman elementary schools. She really shined and enjoyed being the librarian at Fairview Elementary School. She was also an avid reader and writer of both prose and poetry.
Jane is survived by her husband of 58 years, Ron Schulz of Denison, TX; sons Todd and wife Theresa Schulz of Princeton, TX; Jeff and wife Sonja Schulz of Nacogdoches, TX; grandchildren Aly Berry of Dallas, TX; Reese and wife Kenzie Schulz of Randolph, TX; and Natalie Schulz and fiancé Anthony Veliz, and Olivia Schulz of Nacogdoches, TX. First great grandchild, Harper Jane, is due in December 2025.
Other survivors include her sister, Nancy and husband Randy Shirley of Sadler, TX along with multiple cousins, nieces and nephews, best friend, Nita Shirley Slaughter of Kruegerville, TX and sister in spirit, Sally Mitchell of Tyler, TX.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church at 901 N. Grand Avenue, Sherman, TX 75090 or, because of her love of her dogs and cats, please make donations to the animal shelter/rescue of your choice.
