IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jean E.
Deffibaugh
September 26, 1928 – May 24, 2023
Jean Earnest Deffibaugh, 94 of Sherman was called home by Jesus on Wednesday, May 24th.
Jean, who was affectionately called 'Ninny', was born September 26, 1928, in Calera, Oklahoma to David Cyrus Earnest and Essie Pickens Earnest. She graduated from Phillips High School in Phillips, Texas. She married Robert "Bob" Deffibaugh on February 14, 1947, a marriage that lasted until he passed away on December 2, 2012.
Jean was a person with a true servant's heart. She was an amazing, kindhearted, giving person and most of all, a Christian. She was a long-time member of The Woods Street Church of Christ.
Jean retired from GTE (now Verizon), in 1989, where she worked as a telephone operator. She also was a bookkeeper and retail worker. After retirement she took courses in computers, genealogy, painting, and golf at Grayson College. She also loved to quilt, gifting beautiful quilts and blankets to family, friends, and co-workers. Jean and Bob, and anyone willing to help, would make hundreds of homemade popcorn balls each Halloween. Trick or Treaters from all over town would drive to west Sherman for the famous treat. Jean was very active, still driving her car to do her shopping and banking. She loved her family and never forgot birthdays, anniversaries, and other special occasions, sending custom-made greeting cards. She was old school and still believed in writing letters to relatives and friends.
She was proceeded in death by her loving husband, parents, sister Jerry Earnest Trolinger, and brother Carroll David Earnest.
She is survived by her children: Nancy Sims Mahan, David Deffibaugh and wife Pam, and Alyce Deffibaugh all of Sherman; Steven Deffibaugh of Princeton; Grandchildren: Michael Sims, Christina Deffibaugh Johnson and husband TJ, Megan Mahan, Brandon Deffibaugh and wife Amanda; Great-grandchildren, Jacob Sims, Zack Sims, Grace Deffibaugh, Brayden Sims, Addy Sims, Avery Deffibaugh, Isaiah Deffibaugh, and Paxton Johnson, as well as beloved, cousins, nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Waldo Funeral Home located at 619 N. Travis Street Sherman, Texas. Graveside service will be held at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman on Thursday, June 1st at 10 a.m.
