Dr. Jerry Anderson

Sherman- Funeral services for Dr. Jerry Meitzen Anderson will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday August 1 at First Baptist Church. Dr. Mike Lawson of the church will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service in the Family Life Center at First Baptist Church. Private family committal services will precede the funeral at Cedarlawn Memorial Park with Dr. Anderson's grandsons serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Judge Curry Vogelsang, Cam Gillespie, Dr. Larry Barker, Jimmy Lillis, Robert Minshew, Bob Tate, Dr. Paul Alexander, and Bob West. Dr. Anderson, 79, passed away Thursday July 27, 2017 at Texoma Medical Center.

Jerry was born December 31, 1937 in Sherman to the late N.B. and Irene (Meitzen) Anderson. He attended Sherman High School where he played football and graduated in 1956. He remained a devoted Bearcat fan and supporter for the rest of his life. Jerry attended East Texas State and Austin College and played football at both schools. He then attended Baylor Dental School where he proudly graduated as valedictorian in 1963. On May 29, 1960, he and Pat Duke where married in Wynne Chapel at Austin College. Dr. Anderson served in the US Army for two years where he was stationed primarily at Fort Riley, Kansas. During this time he developed a passion for pheasant hunting.

In 1965, Jerry and Pat returned to Sherman where he opened his dental practice. He remained in private practice for 39 years until he retired in 2004. He was actively involved in the Sherman community serving on several local boards including the Lion's Club, Ducks Unlimited, SHS Booster Club, and the Boys and Girls Club. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church where he served as deacon and taught Sunday School for many years. During retirement, he continued dentistry on several mission trips to Mexico.

Dr. Anderson was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing, and his time with friends and family at the deer lease. He loved all sports and played tennis for many years. He was especially proud of his children and grandchildren, proudly attending and cheering at their sporting events. His keen sense of humor and outgoing personality will be missed by all who knew him.

Dr. Anderson is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pat of Sherman; three daughters, Leigh Dye and husband Ben of Denison, Laura Young and husband John Paul of Celina, and Lyndy Frost and husband David of Tyler; one son, Dr. Jay Anderson of Seattle, WA; ten grandchildren, Bentley Dye and wife Brandi of Denison, Emily Hanna and husband Garreth of Belfast, North Ireland, Bradley Dye of Galveston, Bailey Dye of College Station, Courtney McCartney and husband Troy of Celina, Christen Young of Austin, Trace Young of Austin, Victoria Frost of Fayetteville, AR, Caroline Frost of San Marcos, and Anderson Frost of Tyler; one great grandchild, Noah Anderson Dye; and one brother, Robert Anderson and his wife Frankie of Rockwall. He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandchild, Bethany Leigh Dye.
