Jo Willa Bateman
Jo Bateman ascended to Jesus on August 14, 2024, after a full and joyful life of service to God and her family. She was 95 years old.
Jo was born on May 4, 1929, in Whitewright, TX, to Jesse L. Owen and Laura Richey Owen. As a child during the Great Depression, Jo learned early in her life of the value of hard work and importance of family. Jo was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, H.G. Bateman. She was also preceded in death by four brothers and one sister, as well as her parents.
Jo is survived by son Rodger Bateman and his wife Brenda, and daughter Nancy Bateman Rogers and her husband Bob." JoJo" loved her grandchildren dearly: Amber Bateman Price and husband Charlie Price, Heather Bateman Peck and husband Jay Peck, Will Rogers and wife Katie Rogers, Cody Bateman, and Whitney Rogers Runyon and husband Nick Runyon. Jo also treasured her great grandchildren: Avery Price, Levi, Madeline, Asher, and Hannah Peck, Travis and Wilson Rogers, Callum, Corrie, Carolina, and Cicily Bateman, Nicholas, Izzy, and Chambers Runyon. Jo is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. Jo is additionally survived by Roger Osterhout, her best friend and special companion of the last 13 years.
Jo was heavily involved in her children's schools serving as PTA president and other volunteer roles. Jo also spent countless hours and highway miles watching the grands play basketball, volleyball, softball, baseball, track, and football games, as well as concerts, recitals, and theatre performances. Jo served the ladies of Sherman for many years as their beautician and cosmetologist as owner of Jo's Beauty Shop and as owner of Jo's Corner, a lady's dress shop. Jo loved to travel and arranged many senior trips and lunches for her church family. Jo could square dance and line dance with the best of them, and in her prime, was a formidable 42 domino player.
Jo was a member of North Park Baptist Church and for many years, Sherman Country Club. The family wishes to thank pastors, David Murphey and Mark Bennet of North Park Baptist, and her former pastor James Moore. The family also wishes to express a sincere and loving appreciation to Roger Osterhout, Jo's very special friend, companion, and primary care giver in the last several years. The family also wants to give thanks to Celebration Senior Living facility, and the wonderful 7th and 8th floor nurses and doctors at Texoma Medical Center.
