Jo Etta Penn passed away on October 10, 2024 after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her family. Jo Etta was born November 3, 1936, in Ada, OK to James H. and Walcie Moore. She married Donor Penn March 7, 1958, in her parent's home. They had been married sixty-six years. She completed Associate, Undergraduate and Master's Degrees from William Woods College and East Central College, now University, respectively. Additional studies at East Texas State University resulted in her receiving Vocational, Mid-Management and Superintendent Certifications. She retired from Howe High School after 24 years as an educator and administrator. She was active in the Texas Retired Teachers Association on the local, district and state levels.
Her many honors include Honorary State of Texas Future Homemakers of America member and American Association of University Women Achievement Award. Jo Etta and Donor enjoyed traveling, including all 50 states and several foreign countries. Jo Etta was an active member of First Baptist Church, Sherman for over 50 years. She is survived by her husband Donor, son Randy and his wife Brenda of Westminster, Colorado; son John and his wife Cindy of Fort Worth, Texas; and daughter Donna of Sherman; grandsons David and Daniel of Fort Worth and Dallas. In accordance with her wishes, a private graveside service will be held in the future.
