IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joan Gipson
Huffman
January 9, 1928 – June 29, 2023
Joan Gipson Huffman, 95, of Denison, Texas, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, June 29, 2023, surrounded by her 3 daughters.
Joan was born on January 9, 1928 to Lee Gipson and Annie Maude Gibson Gipson in Overton, Texas.
Joan worked as a bookkeeper in the LeTourneau Credit Union in Longview, Texas, where she met the love of her life, Charles R. Huffman. They were married on April 16, 1954 and went on to have 3 daughters, Susan, Melody and Cindy. The family moved to Texarkana, Texas then to Sherman, Texas in 1969.
Joan, a woman of strong faith, along with her husband Charles (Chuck), raised their daughters to know and love the Lord, their family and extended family and to love others. She had the gift of hospitality, a contagious smile, a quick wit and she never met a stranger. She loved having her home filled with family and friends, cooking meals or one of her homemade pies for them. Joan loved to play games and cards and was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan. She became Nana to her grandchildren and many of their friends. She was a long time member of Fairview Baptist Church and a frequent volunteer in her church and community. She enjoyed being a Pink Lady at WNJ, a registrant for elections, and enjoyed volunteering at her church. Joan and Chuck loved to travel to visit relatives when their girls were growing up. After retirement, they traveled with friends to many other places around the country.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brothers Richard Gipson, Bob Gipson, Troy Gipson and Buddy Gipson; and sisters Chapyne Goforth and Ann Parish.
She is survived by daughters Susan Abernethy and husband Dusty, Melody Peters, and Cindy Settle and husband Monty; grandchildren Jonah Peters and wife Angie, Jacob Peters and Ashley Selman, Sarah Beth Settle Allison and husband Jordan, Jessica Peters, Nate Abernethy and Ben Abernethy; five great-grandchildren Macie Redfearn, Nolan Redfearn, Dax Redfearn, Prescott Peters, and Molly Peters; brother-in law Dale Huffman, brother-in-law Joe Huffman and wife Ann; sister-in-law Eleanor Huffman Bartlett, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to either Fairview Baptist Church missions or Texas Scottish Rite Hospital.
Caleb Fleming will officiate services under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends and loved ones Sunday, July 9, at Waldo Funeral Home, 6:00- 8:00pm.
Celebration of Joan's life will be held on Monday, July 10, 10:00am at Fairview Baptist Church, Sherman.
Graveside service at West Hill cemetery will follow the service with Jonah Peters, Jacob Peters, Jordan Allison, Bryan Murphy, Nolan Redfearn, Eric Benge, and Nick Myatt serving as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearers are Nate Abernethy and Ben Abernethy.
Joan will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
