Obituary

John Doak "J.D." Franklin, a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Born on August 2, 1929, to Otis Howard Franklin and Vonnie Jane Anderson Franklin, J.D. grew up in a close-knit family with three brothers—Otis Jr., Dorsey, and Charles—and one sister, Betty. He was also cherished by his grandparents, John and Luvenia Franklin, as well as Docus and Pallie Anderson.
J.D. proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. After his military service, he dedicated many years to the railroad industry and retired from the railroad in Sherman, Texas. A hardworking man with a heart full of love, he spent his retirement doing what he loved most, traveling the country in his beloved Chevy van and creating unforgettable memories with his family.
He was the proud father of two children, Ronald Franklin and Belinda Franklin. His legacy continues through his many grandchildren: Jason, Travis, and Candace Franklin; Otis and Jake Franklin; Boe and Erik Webster; Dylan Franklin; and Albey, Jaimah, and Tarrah Simmons. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Elijah, Dakota, Taitum, Linkin Doak Webster, Camberlee and Jason Byrd, and Chevy, Keely, Nitrous, and Harley Winchester.
J.D. will be remembered for his deep love for his family, his adventurous spirit, and the strength and wisdom he passed down through generations. His stories, his laughter, and his unwavering presence will be missed dearly by all who knew him.
A life well-lived, a legacy well-loved, rest in peace, J.D.
