John went to his eternal rest with faith and in peace on January 4, 2018 while holding the hand of his loving wife of 58 years, JoAnn.
John was born and raised in Clarksville and in 1959, he moved to Sherman where he became an influential member of the community as he served on the boards of the Chamber of Commerce, Boys and Girls Clubs and the Bearcat Booster Club. He was also a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and a member of Fairview Baptist Church and First Baptist Church. Throughout his life he had many diverse interests including dove and pheasant hunting, tennis, church softball and golf. John was an astute businessman and entrepreneur. He owned and operated Sherman Office Supply from 1970 until he retired in 2000. He loved his family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, JoAnn (Eudy); sons, David Shoulders and Randy Shoulders and his wife Helen; 8 Grandchildren (Misty, Shane, Lindsay, Lara, Emily, Elizabeth, Molly and Luke); 8 Great-grandchildren (Kobe, Kennedy, Eleanor, Savanna, Brett, Austin, Taylor and Lilly); and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Elmer and Rena Shoulders; his sisters, Joyce Burns, Doris Howlen, and Carnell Shoulders; and his brother, Elmer Jr, a WWII veteran.
Visitation will be 5-7pm Monday, January 8 at Waldo Funeral Home, 619 N. Travis St, Sherman. The Memorial Service is scheduled for 11am Tuesday, January 9 at First Baptist Church, 400 S. Travis St, Sherman, with Rev. Gary Baxter officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be the Sunset Dairy Queen Coffee Club, the Weekly Wednesday Golf Group, David Barrett and Shane Shoulders.
