On May 13th 2013 the Lord called the "Rock" of our family Johnny Owens "Big John," "Pawpaw" Jordan 70, home to Heaven. He was born in Athens, Georgia on July 4th 1942 to John O and Lila Conley Jordan. His father's death preceded Johnny's birth. He and his cousin Doyle were raised in his early years by the matriarchs of the family- his mom, Aunt Robbie and Grandma Conley. These woman taught him to be strong, caring and to be a survivor. They taught him family first and self last. His mother then married Norman Lee "Blackie" Phillips where fishing, hunting and gardening were shared pleasures. He married the love and soul mate of his life Betty Sue Reno on June 30, 1962 in Sherman.
Family night will be Thursday May 16 ,2013 from 6pm till 8pm at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman, Texas. Graveside services will be held Friday May 17 ,2013 at 2pm at Cedarlawn Memorial in Sherman, Texas. His wishes were to come as you are.
He worked for Burlington Industries for 27 years. He retired when the plant closed. There after he was self-employed as a painter and cabinet maker.
He went to work at Magna-Fab for 14 years where he retired a 2nd time after open heart surgery. Which he never let slow him down because he had things to do at home with grandkids and in-laws.
Everytime the Lord tried to slow him down he came back kicking hard and strong like he never felt better. His hobby was raising grandkids, great grandkids that he was with everyday up to his final illness.
He was a true friend who never met a stranger, he was always just a phone call away at any hour of the day. He loved to fish, working in his garden, being on the deck enjoying Gods creations or tinkering in the yard. He was a Baptist who would just as soon be camping with his family rejoicing in the sunrise and beauty God made for us.
