Obituary

Johnny Lee Waldrip, age 77 of Joshua, Texas, passed away on October 9, 2025, at the Texas Health Huguley Hospital in Burleson, Texas.

He was born on January 11, 1948, in Florence, Arizona, the son of Jack A. Waldrip and Lois Dodson Waldrip.

He graduated from Bells High School in 1966 and before starting the DPS Academy in 1969. Johnny worked as a Highway Patrol and DPS Auto Theft before becoming a Texas Ranger in 1983 and serving as a Sergeant, retiring in 1997. During this time, he was a member of Companies "B" and "F" specializing in both SWAT and Hypnosis. He earned a Texas Legislative Recognition for bravery and 31 Letters of Commendation from a kidnapping case.

After retiring from serving as a Texas Ranger he became Chief Deputy of Grayson County Sheriff's Department until 2001 then served as Grayson County Commissioner until retiring and moving to Joshua, Texas in 2018. During his time in Joshua, he has served on the City Council.  Johnny was a member of the Bells Masonic Lodge and was Past Master.  He was also a member of the Scottish Rite and The First Baptist Church in Sherman.

He is survived by his wife Carol Waldrip, sons Paul Waldrip and wife Gina, Daniel Waldrip and wife Sarah, grandchildren, Riley Waldrip, Brandi Barsotta and husband Justin, Myka Burtner and great grandchildren, Parker Johnson and Camdyn Barsotta, Brothers, Bill Waldrip, Randy Waldrip and Tommy Waldrip and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Johnny was preceded in death by his parents, Infant son Johnathan Lee Waldrip and brother Pete Waldrip.
