Karen Joan
Weiss
October 28, 1938 – October 23, 2021
Karen Joan Weiss, of Sherman, Texas, passed on Saturday, October 23, 2021, just five days shy of her 83rd birthday.
Born in Chicago on October 28, 1938, to Henry and Agatha Jellema, Karen was the second of seven children. On March 16, 1957, she married the love of her life, Bud, and together they had three daughters. Karen's love language was caring for others; especially skilled at making way to their hearts by filling their bellies with delicious meals. Upon moving from western Colorado to North Texas in 2015, she immediately embedded herself in her new community preparing meals for seniors at the Sherman Senior Center through Meals on Wheels of Texoma. Karen was also a long-time advocate for the developmentally disabled. When not volunteering to serve others, she could be found filling her mind with countless volumes of books. She was a member of Post Oak Fellowship Church in Sherman, Texas and former member of First Baptist Church in Delta, Colorado where she and Bud spent a lot of time and has remained in contact since moving away.
Karen was preceded in death by her sweetheart husband, Bud, her parents, and brother, Philip. Surviving are siblings: Norm, Faith, Janet, Mary, and Linda; three daughters: Laurie (Doug) Hamby, Vanessa Weiss, and Susan (Tim) Blair; her special sister-in-law, Gloria (Bill) Starkgraf; thirteen grandchildren: Danielle Wold, Lindsey, Amy, and Adam Foss; Scott, Ian, Peter, and Eric Hamby; Nicole Long, Sean and Justin Norton, and Bailey and Ziara Weiss; eighteen great-grandchildren; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, family members respectfully request donations be made in her name to the Grand Central Station Soup Kitchen in Sherman, Texas. Services will be held Saturday, October 30 at 10:00 AM at Post Oak Fellowship Church in Sherman.
