Kathryn "Kathy" Lynn Barker

May 29, 1959 – August 10, 2023

With unfathomable grief and sadness, yet with great rejoicing in heaven, the family of Kathryn Lynn (Campbell) Barker announced that after a lengthy illness, Kathy passed from her frail earthly body to heavenly peace at the age of 64 on August 10, 2023, at her home in Sherman, TX.  Kathy often expressed sadness to leave her family and friends but approached death with great joy and anticipation of standing before God Almighty in eternal praise for His saving grace. Her friends and family are invited to visit Kathy and the family on Friday evening, August 11, at 6:00 pm at Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman, TX.  A private graveside service will be held Saturday, August 12, 2023, at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman, TX.  A public memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 am at FBC Sherman, Dr. Michael Lawson, pastor officiating.

Kathy was born in Ada, Oklahoma on May 29, 1959, to Charles Jan Campbell and Kathryn Louise (Wilson) Campbell Straughn. Kathy grew up in Konawa, Oklahoma, and lived most of her childhood and youth in the care of her grandparents, Robert "Bob" Franklin Wilson and Lydia Pearl (Coursey) Wilson of Konawa, Oklahoma.

Kathy met Gary Barker at Konawa High School in Konawa, OK, and their love grew through their church activities. Kathy was Valedictorian of her 1977 Senior class and married Gary the week after graduation.  They initially made their home in Shawnee, OK and moved to Fort Worth, TX in 1979 where they lived when their daughter, Kyndra Noel (Barker) Reed, was born in 1980 and their son, Ryan Charles Barker, was born in 1983.

Kathy earned a Bachelor of Science (summa cum laud) and a Master of Science in Speech/Language Sciences from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth. The Barker's moved to Sherman, TX in 1997 where Kathy was employed by Texoma Medical Center Hospital and Reba McEntire Center for Rehabilitation for over 20 years as a Speech/Language Pathologist. Kathy was a member of Sherman First Baptist Church and The Daughters of the American Revolution.

Kathy is survived by her husband of 46 years, Gary Leon Barker, of the home; daughter, Kyndra Noel (Barker) Reed and husband Jeffrey Paul Reed and their daughters Abigail Kathryn, Kaelyn Elizabeth, Olivia Ryan, and Bethany Noel Reed of Sherman, TX; son, Ryan Charles Barker, wife Lindsay Afton (Curtin) Barker and their children Afton MacKenzie, Emily Elizabeth, Selah Noel, and Lincoln Hunt Barker, of Van Alstyne, TX; Kathy's father, Charles Jan Campbell of Oklahoma City; brother John Straughn and wife Suzette of Era, TX; brother Wayne Bridges of Chipley, FL; sister, Robin (Straughn) Williams and husband Wesley of Norman, OK; sister, Kara (Straughn) Hill and husband Steven of Midwest City, OK; sister-in-law Pam (Barker) Floyd of Tecumseh, OK and brother-in-law Billy Don Barker and wife Jeanne of Ardmore, OK. She is also survived by 5 aunts/uncles and 31 nieces/nephews. Kathy was preceded in death by her grandparents, mother, and one niece. This service will also be available via Livestream at www.fbcsherman.org/

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests financial gifts be sent in Kathy's name to: The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration, 2700 Horizon Dr., King of Prussia, PA 19406.
