April 16, 1958 – January 28, 2024
Michael Keith Gray went to be with his savior on Sunday, January 28, 2024 at the age of 65. Keith was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas on April 16,1958 to Pat and Joye Gray. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Robert Kevin Gray, nephew, Adam Bryan Gray, and granddaughter, Kylee Lynn Gray. He married Shelia Juanette Pratt on August 26, 1989. They were happily married for 34 years. Shelia was able to be at Keith's side in his final hours.
Keith graduated from Sulphur Springs High School in 1976 and the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, AR in 1981. He went to the University of Arkansas on a full scholarship for track, throwing the shot put and discus. He was very proud of his accomplishments in track. He began throwing in junior high and all through college. He held records at state in high school and at the University of Arkansas.
Keith received his Bachelor of Science degree in Education from the University of Arkansas. He taught physical education, history ,and science at junior high and coached football, track and field, and basketball at junior high and high school levels. He was proud of his students' accomplishments. He wanted them to be interested in learning. After leaving the teaching field, Keith worked at Magni-Fab in Howe, TX and Terex in Denison, TX.
Keith was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sherman, TX. He was an Eagle Scout.
Keith loved hunting and fishing. He enjoyed being outdoors. He was an avid reader, especially science fiction. He loved music of all kinds, country, heavy rock and everything in between. He never met a stranger. He would strike up conversations anywhere with whoever was around. It would drive his wife and son crazy because he didn't know when to stop talking.
Keith fought a valiant fight against bone cancer.
Keith was blessed with a large and loving family. They were his most cherished treasures. He is survived by his wife, Shelia, son, Kyle and wife, Shelby Gray, his grandchildren, Willow, Paislee, and Wyatt Gray, all of Sherman, TX. He is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews and spouses, and 26 great nieces and nephews, and many cousins and friends.
Keith will be missed for his quirky sense of humor, his love of adventure, and his generosity and love. He wants to be remembered as a kind, thoughtful, compassionate man.
A family visitation will be on Friday, February 2, 2024 at Waldo Funeral Home, 619 North Travis Street in Sherman, TX from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 322 W. Pecan Street in Sherman, TX. at 1:00 p.m. Reverend Gaylene Chrystie and Reverend Ted Foote will officiate the service. There will be a reception following the service in Fellowship Hall.
