Kelly
Bickerstaff
February 26, 1959 – November 28, 2021
Kelly Ray Bickerstaff was born in Lawton, OK on February 26, 1959, to W.R. and Jeanine (Knight) Bickerstaff and left this earth on Sunday, November 28, 2021. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 2 nd at First United Methodist Church, Sherman at 2:00PM with a family visitation following at the church.
Kelly was raised in Marlow, OK where he was Class President and President of FFA (Future Farmers of America) at Marlow High School. During his time with FFA he won many awards showing livestock, as well as in parliamentary procedure and speech, including the achievement of several State Championships. Because of his passion for FFA and agriculture, he attended the University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University before graduating from Cameron State University in Lawton, OK with a degree in Agriculture and a plan to be an Ag teacher. However, he decided to pursue a law degree and graduated from Oklahoma City University School of Law and quickly became certified to practice law in two states by passing both the Texas and Oklahoma Bar exams. He moved to Lubbock, TX and began his law career with the McCleskey, Harriger, Brazil & Graf Law Firm. After moving to Dallas for a few years to establish his own law firm, he ultimately relocated to Sherman to practice law in 1993. He married Kathleen McDonald in January 1994 and they had two children, Koll Douglas and Kelsea Anne.
While living in Sherman, Kelly was a member of First United Methodist Church where he frequently taught middle school, high school, and adult Sunday School classes and served on several committees and projects. He enjoyed preparing many fellowship meals for groups large and small. His favorite memories were made when he and Kathy served as Youth Counselors before having children. They led many Sunday evening Bible studies, took the youth members to visit elderly members in their homes or at their nursing homes, delivered Thanksgiving and Christmas meals to families in need, and led many memorable mission trips and ski trips. He maintained friendships and communication with many of the youth members as they married and had children of their own.
In addition to his service at church, Kelly was involved in many charitable and volunteer organizations. He served as board member and past president of Boys & Girls Club of Sherman, Lions Club, and Texoma Exposition and Livestock Show Inc. Board. If an organization, fundraising group or individual needed assistance in any way, all they had to do was ask and Kelly would be there to help.
Kelly was preceded in death by his mother Jeanine (Knight) Bickerstaff, grandparents Arthur and Agnes Inez Bickerstaff, James L. and Theresa (Moeder) Knight, and niece Karson Grace Bickerstaff. He is survived by Kathy, her mother Geri McDonald Martin of Hurst, TX, son Koll Douglas Bickerstaff of Stephenville, TX, daughter Kelsea Anne Bickerstaff of Sherman, TX, father W.R. Bickerstaff of Marlow, OK, brothers and sisters-in-law Kraig and Anita Bickerstaff of Marlow, OK, Kevin and Lou Bickerstaff of Ada, OK, Jack and Jacque McDonald of Southlake, TX, aunt Mollie Catron, uncle Jim Knight, cousins Mary Ann and Rick Lindsey, Jennifer Querbes, and Carolyn Querbes, nephews and nieces Kris, Kasey, Kody, Kara, Kasi, Konner, Kennadee, and Cash, and their extended families.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to First United Methodist Church Youth Group (401 N. Elm, Sherman, TX 75090), Sherman Education Foundation (2701 Loy Lake Rd., Sherman, TX 75090) or the church or charity of your choice.
