Obituary

Larry Alan Morriss, 70, of Sherman, Texas, passed away peacefully at home on January 8, 2025, from ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease).

Born May 10, 1954, Larry was a lifelong resident of Sherman who dedicated his life to his faith, family and community. He was married to his beloved wife, Donneita, for 48 years, often joking that his life story consisted of being born and then meeting her. Their union, which began June 24, 1976, was blessed with two daughters, Stephanie (Jack) Hudgins of Sachse, TX and Sterling (Joe) Howard of Takoma Park, MD. Larry found his greatest joy in being "Pops" to his grandchildren Adalyn, James, and Caleb Hudgins, and Morrison and Jude Howard. He considered being their grandfather the most rewarding role of his life.

A 1972 graduate of Sherman High School and 1976 graduate of Austin College, Larry built a successful career serving his community. He worked in inventory management and administration at Oscar Mayer Foods for 23 years, successfully overseeing the plant's closure. In 1999, he took over his parents' business, Jack & Jen Child Care Centers, which he managed until his retirement in 2022. Under his leadership, the centers served hundreds of local families.

Larry's commitment to public service included four years on the Sherman City Council, including service as deputy mayor.

Larry's legacy will be his heart for the Lord and his promotion of the Gospel of Jesus Christ at Sherman Bible Church, where he served as an elder. Larry first heard the good news of Jesus Christ at a tent revival in 1972 and found himself believing. There, Christ began a good work in Larry, which He carried through to completion this week (Philippians 1:6). Larry fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith (2 Timothy 4:7), all to the praise of the One who saved him. During his eldership at the church, he led men's and couples' discipleship groups, mentored nine married couples with Donneita, and completed the Men's Bible Theology Course.

In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Larry is survived by his wife's family, his brother Steve Morriss of Denton, TX and Steve's family. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Virginia Morriss, father-in-law, Harold Falk, and his granddaughter, Hanna Hudgins.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, January 17 at Sherman Bible Church, 2515 W Lamberth Rd, Sherman, TX 75092. A reception will follow on site.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Sherman Bible Church.
