Larry Don Scruggs, age 72 of Sherman, ascended to his eternal home after an extended illness, on 9/9/2025.
Larry was born to Hurl Scruggs Sr and Viola Malvern Scruggs on March 15th, 1953, in Sherman, TX. He received his education from the Sherman ISD. Graduating with the Sherman High class of 1971.
A gifted musician, he was a member of his high school band and organized his own show band after high school, The TSA Showband, (The Sound Among Us) with members Ricky Niblet, Michael Boyd, Leonard Akers, Jerry Shannon, Cleo Bowen Sr, Charles "Jumper "Jones, Bobby Polk, Doyle Young and Robert Fugett
He was employed for 42 years at Atmos Energy in Sherman TX .
He was a lifelong member of the Church of God in Christ, a member of the former King St and Friendly COGIC, and current member of The Friendly Pentecostal Church of Sherman, TX. Using his God given gift he was active as a musician in the church, as the church keyboard player and worked diligently with the brotherhood until he became ill.
He joins in glory his parents, twin brothers Alfred and Albert, sister Lillie B. Lucas, sister and brother/law Sammie and John Gardner, and brother/law Joel Talton, his niece Raquel Fugett, and a host of relatives.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife James Etta Scruggs, his children Larry D. Jackson and Wm. Jason Ruben of Sherman, daughter Lakesha Ruben of Sherman, stepdaughter Marshell Harrison of Sherman.
His brother Hurl Scruggs Jr. and wife Mary of Lewisville, TX and sister Jean Talton of Florida. Five nieces and seven nephews and many loved ones and relatives.
A public visitation will be Monday, September 15th from 3:00PM to 7:00 PM at Waldo Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be on Tuesday, September 16th at 1:00 PM in the Friendly Church of God in Christ, Sherman. Elder Robert Fugett will be officiating. Pastor Apostle Robert Softly will be the Eulogist.
Burial will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Sherman. With repast at the Friendly Church.
Arrangements have been entrusted to James E. Smith and the professions of Waldo Funeral Home.
