Larry James Ticknor
January 8, 1938 – May 19. 2021
Larry was born January 8, 1938 to Howard and Louise Ticknor at Wade, Oklahoma. He graduated from Idabel High School in 56. He went on to Murray Junior College on a football scholarship and continued his education at OSU on scholarship. From there he was invited to the Dallas Cowboy Camp. He played one game. He played with Don Meredith. Larry's story is Don came up to him as they were going to practice and said "Shug I'm going to make you look good. I'm going to come at you and you fall down". Larry did. The coach gave him the option of keeping his weight up and staying or going home. Larry told him he was tired of being runover and came home. Larry and his lifetime friend Slugg helped build some cabins at Broken Bow during the summer. His classmates and him were close. He talked of his friend Sonny Whitten who was the first one to have a car. Larry drove an 18-wheeler with his Dad. He went on to various jobs, selling insurance was one. Larry also coached Peewee football teams.
God blessed the broken road that led him to his wife Iretta "Rita" Woolley Ticknor. They met June 25, 2010 and married August 10, 2010. They were introduced by a really good friend Charline Ticknor. Larry and Rita joined Pathway of Life Church in 2011 and volunteered at Metro Bless Food Pantry and was a greeter at the church. He left us here May 19, 2021 from his earthly home in Seagoville during the night where he was under hospice care.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Louise Ticknor, his brothers Randy Ticknor and Jim Ticknor and his son Casey Ticknor.
He is survived by his loving wife Iretta "Rita" Ticknor, her children Brett and Suzanne Shell, Laura Allison and her 2 children Chaney and Kenzie and son Mark Woolley who welcomed Larry into their family. Larry's son Stephen and wife Penny and two granddaughters, Lexi and Libby Ticknor. Two grandsons from Casey, Andrew and Evan Ticknor, his sister Linda Canady of Sherman and numerous cousins and friends.
