Obituary

Lillie Bernice Scruggs Lucas, age 88 of Sherman ascended to her eternal home Saturday, January 20th at her residence following a short illness.

Lillie was born to Hurl Scruggs Sr and Viola Malvern Scruggs on November 14,1935 in Denison, TX.  She received her education from the Sherman School District, Graduating with the Fred Douglas Class of 1954. She attended Prairie View College in Prairie View TX.

In 1959, she married the late David Lucas.

She Worked for 30 plus years at Wilson N Jones Hospital as a Ward Clerk.

She was a lifelong member of the Church of God in Christ, a member of the former King St and Friendly COGIC over 80 years, saved under Elder S. A Wells at a young age. She was active as a musician in the church, and worked in the Home and Foreign Mission Aux.  In 2020, she joined the New Life COGIC in Bonham, TX under Prophet J.R. Gatlin, and in 2023 returned to the Friendly COGIC under Pastor R.G. Softly.

She joins in glory her parents, twin brothers Alfred and Albert, sister and brother/law Sammie and John Gardner, and beloved granddaughter Raquel Fugett, and a host of relatives.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children Altha and husband Elder Robert Fugett, Anna, TX, Mark Lucas, Craig Church, Grapeview, WA, Vernicia Lucas and grandson Jared Lucas, Sherman, TX.  Brothers Hurl Scruggs Jr and wife Mary Lewisville, TX, Larry Scruggs and wife Jamesetta, Sherman, TX   Sister Jean Talton and husband Joel of Pflugerville, TX, sister/cousin Josephine Softly and husband Pastor R.G. Softly Sherman, TX and a host of loved relatives.

A public visitation will be Friday, February 2nd from 2PM to 7PM at Waldo Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be Saturday, February 3rd at 11AM at Friendly Church of God in Christ, 711 E. Lamar, Sherman.  Elder Robert Softly will officiate and Prophet J.R. Gatlin will deliver the eulogy.  Burial will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman.  Repast for family and friends will be at Waldo Family Center after the burial.
