Phillip Lin Long, age 70, of Gunter, Texas passed away peacefully on September 5, 2026. Lin was born December 12, 1955, in Denison, Texas, to Hubert and Phyllis Long. He graduated in 1974 from Castleberry High School in Ft. Worth, Texas. Lin was employed as a painter for most of his adult life with his last employment being with Austin College in Sherman, Texas. Lin married Shannon Johnson on March 25, 1989. She preceded him in death on January 5, 2012. He later married Wendy Burton on October 22, 2022.
Lin was known for being stubborn, but those who knew him best also knew he had a big heart. He loved his family deeply and found some of the greatest enjoyment in the simple things in life. Lin especially enjoyed cooking; from desserts to grilling meats and smoking briskets. His generosity and thoughtfulness were reflected in the care he put into sharing his cooking with others.
One of Lin’s favorite pastimes was fishing, especially catching striper and catfish. Some of his most treasured fishing memories were made alongside his son, Ryan. He also enjoyed attending the truck races at Texas Motor Speedway with Ryan, making those race days another special way they spent time together. Lin was a football fan and enjoyed watching the Baylor Bears and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Lin is survived by his wife, Wendy Burton Long of Gunter, Texas; son, Ryan Long and wife, Katey, also of Gunter; daughter, Nycole Trevino and husband, Sammy of Hendrix, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Kylee Long, Shelby Parsons, Addyson Winchester, and Bradley Winchester; mother, Phyllis Long of Sherman, Texas; brother, Ken Long and Jimmy Rust; sister, Nan Ingram and husband, Terry of Pottsboro, Texas; nephews, Dusty Ingram of Sherman and Darren Ingram and wife, Erin, also of Sherman; and numerous extended family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert Long and grandchildren, Drake Long and Rylee Long.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 11, 2026, at Cedarlawn Memorial Park, 5805 Texoma Parkway, Sherman, Texas, 75090. The family will receive friends during a visitation from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Thursday, September 10, 2026, at Waldo Funeral Home, 619 Travis St., Sherman, Texas,75090.
