Obituary

Lynda Kay Rhudy (Eldredge)

Lynda Kay Rhudy, lovingly known as “Scooterbill” by her dad and "Aunt Lynnie" to her nieces and nephews, passed away on October 20, 2026, in Denison, Texas, following a courageous three-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. She was born Lynda Kay Eldredge on March 9, 1946, in Ralls, Texas, and lived a life defined by love, laughter, resilience, and an unwavering devotion to family and friends.

Lynda grew up in Abernathy, Texas, as part of a large and close-knit family. She was the fourth-born child and one of eight siblings. The Eldredge family was, as some described, "crazy as a zoo," but they were deeply devoted to one another and always showed up when it mattered most. It has been said that Lynda inherited much of her joyful spirit and lighthearted outlook from her grandmother, Ganna, and throughout her life she remained both headstrong and endlessly optimistic.

Determined to pursue a career she loved, Lynda earned her GED so she could attend Jessie Lee Beauty School and become a licensed cosmetologist. She later earned her cosmetology instructor's license and spent her career doing what she enjoyed most: connecting with people. Together with her husband, James Rhudy, she operated Rhudy's House of Styles, where she built friendships that lasted decades. To many, she was far more than a hairdresser. She was a trusted confidante, a source of encouragement, and a dear friend. She genuinely loved her clients, and many became part of her extended family.

In 1967, she met the man who would become the love of her life, James Andrew Rhudy, while working at the salon. Neither expected that relationship to become a lifelong partnership, but together they built a marriage that would span 58 years and a business partnership that lasted more than six decades. Through every season of life, they remained side by side.

Family was always at the center of Lynda's world. She was the matriarch, the peacemaker, the advocate, and, as one family member described her, "the grease that kept the wheels from squeaking." She helped raise younger siblings, nurtured generations of children and grandchildren, and created simple traditions that became cherished memories. Family movie nights, road trips to Six Flags and Wet-n-Wild, holiday journeys to Lubbock, visits to Taco Bell, and Saturday afternoons at Cellarman's sharing dips, cider, and their own tortilla chips became part of the fabric of family life.

Lynda had a gift for finding joy in the ordinary. She loved showing dogs, collecting jewelry, traveling, playing cards and dice games, spending time online chatting with friends from around the world, and watching movies of all kinds, especially B-grade science fiction films. Her curiosity never faded. She was playful, adventurous, nurturing, and known for a sense of humor that often included making fun of herself. She could be delightfully silly and never worried what anyone else thought. More importantly, she made work fun, family gatherings lively, and difficult days easier to bear.

Throughout her battle with cancer, Lynda remained remarkably positive. Even during the most challenging moments, she continued to laugh, encourage others, and focus on the people she loved. Her optimism was not denial but a reflection of the way she chose to live her life. She met adversity with grace, strength, and a smile.

Among the many lessons she passed on were the importance of caring for yourself, putting your best foot forward each day, maintaining a sense of humor, and always finding reasons for hope. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched through her kindness, friendship, generosity, and love.

Lynda was preceded in death by her father, Byron Edward Eldredge, her mother Pernie Pauline Eldredge (Jones); her daughter, Sherry Ridlehuber; son-in-law, Hoyte Ridlehuber; brother Malcolm Eldredge, and an older brother who passed away in childhood.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, James Andrew Rhudy; her children, Connie McQuinn and Jamie Rhudy and spouse Elsa Hernandez; her grandchildren, Christopher Edwards and wife Tara Edwards, David Edwards, Amy Benson and husband Brice Benson, Tiffany Ingram and husband Cory Ingram, and Colton McQuinn; her great-grandchildren, Cody Edwards, Cassidy Edwards, Hailey Edwards and partner Tyler Love, Danielle Edwards, Carter Benson, Caleb Benson, Barrett Benson, Noah Ingram, Whitney Ingram, and Harper Ingram; her great-great-grandchildren, Sophie Love and Scotlyn Love; her siblings, Vickie Brown, Roy Eldredge, Earl Eldredge and wife Cathy Eldredge, and Tannye Augustine; her sisters-in-law, Dorris Eldredge and Tai Eldredge; and her faithful dog, Roscoe.

Lynda's brother, Byron Eldredge, with whom she shared a close bond, passed away two days after her.

A celebration of Lynda's life will be held at a later date. The family will announce service details when arrangements have been finalized.

Those who knew Lynda will remember her not only for the life she lived, but for the joy she brought wherever she went. Her laughter, kindness, and love for family will continue to echo through the generations who were fortunate enough to know her.
