On June 1, 1944, she married Robert Hofstetter in San Diego, Texas. They shared sixty-one wonderful years of marriage before his passing on September 23, 2005.
Lucille worked at Pools Manufacturing, Gibson's Discount Store, and Texas Instruments, retiring in 1988 from Texas Instruments, where she managed the tool crib and provided parts to machinists. After retirement, she enjoyed helping her husband with his garden, canning their fresh produce and tending the cattle on their small farm. She also loved making rag quilts for family and friends and attending countless country and gospel concerts.
She is survived by her three daughters: Shirley and husband Jimmie Campbell of Haslet; Dorothy and husband David Lay of Sherman; and Tricia and husband Ron Brown of Allen; and her son Robert Wayne and wife Susie Hofstetter of Sherman.
She also leaves behind nine grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, seventeen great-great-grandchildren, her sisters-in-law Evelyn Long, Penny Long, and Betty Long, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert; her parents Walter and Ruth Long; her brothers A.C. Long, Walter Long, Wesley Long, and Bobby Long; and her sisters Jewel Long and Beulah Hofstetter.
Pallbearers will be Shaun Lay, Randy Hofstetter, Ryan Brown, Jeremy Jones, Brennan Miller, and Mark Campbell.
Lucille's favorite color was red, and the family asks that those attending her service honor her by wearing something red. Services will be held on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Waldo Funeral Home, 619 N. Travis St., Sherman, Texas. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m., officiated by David Ellis. Burial will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park, 5805 Texoma Pkwy., Sherman, Texas.
