Dr. Mack Broiles

Sherman- Dr. Mack Broiles, beloved educator, husband, father, Daddy B, and friend passed away November 1 at the age of 84.  Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, November 6 at the First Baptist Church of Sherman.   Dr. Mike Lawson will officiate, and Mack's grandsons will be honorary pallbearers.  Burial will follow at Gober Cemetery.

Mack was born to Emmett and Una Broiles on November 3, 1938 in Gober, Texas.  He married Sharon Louise Belk on May 30, 1964, until she passed away on April 15, 2009. He married Sandra Anderson on November 11, 2011.

Dr. Broiles studied at Austin College and earned three degrees from East Texas State University in Commerce, including a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Education and Doctor of Philosophy. He also served in the 4th Armored Division of the United States military in Goeppingen, Germany.

He began his educational venture with Grayson County College in 1969, retiring as the Dean of Business and Technology in 1996.  His career continued with Sher- Den Realty, Inc as owner and broker.

Mack attended St. Stepen's Episcopal Church from 1969 until 2013.  He was a fixture on the third pew every single Sunday and served as endowment chair, treasurer, and Senior Warden.  He attended the First Baptist Church from 2013 to 2023 where he loved singing in the choir.  He also loved his Tuesday night bible study.

Having held numerous leadership positions in career and community organizations, Dr. Broiles also served as president of GTAR, Rotary Club, Boy Scouts, Phi Delta Kappa, and Grayson County Red Cross. He served as both treasurer and vice president of the Texas Junior College Teacher Association and was a life member of the Texas Real Estate Teacher Association. Some of the honors that Dr. Broiles had received included the Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts and GTAR awards as realtor of the year, lifetime achievement, and appreciation for commitment to real estate education.  He also served on the Grayson County Board of Trustees from 2012-2022 and served as the president one year.

Mack was happiest while hunting, vacationing with family, teaching his children and grandchildren how to shoot and fish, educating students, reading to children in the elementary schools, and driving his tractor pulling the grandkids through the spooky forest.  He is survived by his wife Sandra; three children, Shelley and her husband Scott, Stacey and husband John, and Scott and wife Holly; grandchildren, Austin, Dylan, Ava, Trace, Ella, Christian, and Makenli; stepson, Chad Anderson and wife Michelle; step grandchildren, Molly and CJ; sister, Peggy Cummings; and numerous nieces, nephews, special friends, and colleagues.

He was preceded in death by his first wife Sharon; parents, Emmett and Una Broiles; three brothers, James, Emmett, and Ben; and three sisters, Iris Wigley, Louetta Callahan, and Ruth Broiles.
