IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Margaret "Meg"
Reid
October 29, 1956 – January 25, 2024
Margaret Elizabeth Reid "MEG" was born on October 29,1956 in Austin, Texas. She went to be with the Lord January 25,2024.
Meg was a University of Texas Austin Graduate.
Heading out in her life travels after graduation… Meg began with leaving home in a new Dallas Cowboys edition Datsun 280Z with a free spirit and being a TECAT Certified Teacher in Houston. Moving on to Oklahoma she designed a ranch home on many acres with cows and Paint Horses. Life took her through many years of mending barbed wire fencing, dealing with oil companies, chief cook and bottle washer at the side café, hardware store gadgets, gas station and jack of all trades to manage the Country Store at her Ranch in Arpelar, Oklahoma.
Meg insured her Amy and Tim the best in education. Both with excellent life's careers.
Early 1990 Meg started her thoughts of being a Romance Writer. In 1995 at a writer's conference during the Oklahoma City Bombing she wrote "To A Friend" in the book "Braced Against the Wind" for her experience there.
1998 life took her to Texas where she continued her writing, working with horses and cattle in Caddo Mills, Texas in her recent marriage to Don. Her two kiddos and his three made an interesting marriage. Cheap date was the 5 kids at the Greenville Super Bowl Speedway dirt track a couple of miles away. She wrote a cover feature for True Romance magazine "My Stock Car Stud Got Me Hooked on Speed". This turned her into driving Stock Car #209 in a 1972 big body Chevy…… 4 years 4th place with trophies. As racing faded Meg finished writing "From the Shadows" 2006 and now a Published Author. Soon she decided on Scuba Diving. She achieved all of her certifications and assisted at Eastfield College Dallas Scuba Program. Her travels then were all over the world starting at Tyler Scuba Park, Lake Travis, Cozumel x 2, FIGI x 2, British and US Virgin Islands x 2 Belize, Dumaguete Philippines, Red Sea where she rode camels, hot air ballon ride over the Valley of the Kings, BVI and USVI mostly all on "live aboard" dive boats. Just a year ago, February 2023, Meg was on the other side of the world diving with the "Diving Divas" on the Tubbataha Reef in the Philippine Islands chain, then to BVI in November 2023 and already purchased airfare for next scheduled trip April 2024 to Bonaire. Her newest challenges were enhancing her photography of God's underwater creatures and glass infusion in a custom-made kiln just for her.
Her interests evolved to Repurposing Glass and glass Infusion in her shop. Stained Glass, bottles of every color and shape… bird baths, yard art, her art. After dirt track racing her motto for her glass endeavors was "Right tool for the right job" Dremel could have used her for R&D new products.
Meg finished her busy days with the reading from her Devotional and Prayers.
Predeceased by her Father, Gerald Wilson Van Eck, Mother Hermine Wilde Van Eck, and Don's daughter Casandra Joan Shidler.
Meg is survived by her sister, Anita Joyce Sheffield, daughter, Amy Brook Somers, son, Timothy Blake Reid, grandkids, Alex, Logan, and Rodney, many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, distant family and husband Donald Mark Shidler
