Obituary

Margie Tolbert Wilson went home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Wednesday, November 28th.

Margie was born on April 12th to Sidney "Boots" Tolbert and Jettie Pearl Mullins Tolbert who preceded her in death along with her brother Sidney Ray Tolbert. She spent her early years on the family farm and then moved into Howe, Texas in elementary school. She attended Howe Public Schools where she directed the elementary choir for three years, was a high school cheerleader, elected "Most Popular" girl of her senior class, was on the basketball team for three years, had the lead role in all high school plays and received the DAR Citizenship Award upon graduation. While attending North Texas State University she took voice lessons for two years, sang on the Stage Show at NT, was a member of the Women's Choir and a member of the Baptist Student Union. She received a BS degree in education from North Texas State University and had worked toward her masters degree at Austin College and Texas A&M in Commerce.

Margie married Carney Douglas Wilson on August 20, 1954 at First Baptist Church in Howe, Texas. They recently celebrated 58 years of marriage.

Margie's life has been characterized by one word, Passion. She did everything with passion and a desire to live life to the fullest. Her first passion was her surviving family. She loved her husband, Carney, daughter, Elaine, Son and Daughter-in-law, Jeff and Lisa and grandchildren, "the lights of her life", Emmi and Chase with all of her heart. Her love was honest and unconditional. She prayed for each of them daily and gave them guidance and encouragement to be the best they could be.

Her second passion was what she called her "purpose in life"-teaching and mentoring high school students. She touched many, many lives in her forty year career of teaching. Margie taught in Dorchester, Denison, private kindergarten at Grand Avenue Presbyterian Church, and 29 years in Sherman. She also substituted at Texoma Christian School until the time of her death. While at Sherman High School, she sponsored the Future Teachers of America, and lead the UIL speech and debate teams for a period of time.

Her third passion was her church, First Baptist Church in Sherman. She and Carney became members in 1957. She worked in the youth department as a teacher or department director for thirty years. For many years she sang in the choir, where she sang many solos. She served on numerous committees, being most proud of serving on the Education Scholarship committee and the Smoote Gray Memorial Scholarship committee. She was was currently in charge of finding substitutes for the adult Sunday School teachers. Margie, also, had a leadership role in her Sunday School class. She had a passion for hearing and teaching the Word of God and it has always been her desire to see others come to know Christ. She loved the legacy and heritage of her church.

Margie was a past member of the American Association of University Women and Delta Kappa Gamma, TSTA, NEA and ATPE. She participated in the Great Days of Service, Juvenile Alternatives, Bomar Cramer Music Club, Rio Rijo Study Club, Sherman Shakespeare Club, ESA and faithfully attended Marsha Benson's Bible Study for over 17 years.

Margie leaves a legacy of living life, being "real", having integrity and serving Christ. Jeremiah 29:11 "For I know the plans I have for you", declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, December 1st at the First Baptist Church in Sherman, TX with Dr. Mike Lawson officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Burial will follow at West Hill Cemetery in Sherman. Arrangements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home.
