IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Maria Monica
Williams
December 8, 1932 – December 19, 2023
It is with heavy hearts, we announce Maria Monica Altenburger Williams, or "Oma" as most people knew her, went home to be with our Lord and Savior on December 19, 2023 at the age of 91. She was loved by everyone who knew her.
She was born on December 8, 1932 in Hall-Tirol, Austria to Alois Altenburger and Anna Altenburger Laher. She grew up in a castle in Salzburg, Austria. After graduating from high school, she became a nanny in Italy, working for a Duke and Duchess, specifically taking care of a 3 year old boy named Fabio. She moved back home to help her mom. She then became an aid in a military hospital where she met her husband, F.L. Williams. They were married in 1956 and had 3 daughters and one son together. She was proud to study hard and become a US citizen in 1962, living in Gainesville, Texas. She cherished being a mother and even lead her daughter's girl scout troops.
She spent much of her life helping others and enjoyed volunteering at ABBA, a local thrift store that helped young single women who had
children, for 30 years. She also volunteered for over 20 years at local nursing homes, feeding those who couldn't feed themselves and being their friend when they had no one else.
When she was 80 years old, she moved to Sherman to be closer to her kids. She found happiness in going to the club house where she would dress up for events, play bingo, do puzzles, go bowling, and any other activities where she could socialize and make friends. She also attended the local church service at the club house. She enjoyed holidays, but especially enjoyed Christmas and always dressed up with festive sweaters, decorated her home, and collected and sent out Christmas cards. She loved watching the trees, specifically looking out for cardinals since they represented the passed loved ones that were looking out for us.
She is preceded in death by her husband - F.L. Williams; son - Rick Williams; grandson - Ezekiel Blanton; brother - Felix Altenburger; sister - Monica Altenburger; mother - Anna Altenberger Laher; and father - Alois Altenburger.
Left to cherish her memory are her brother Helmut and Erika Altenburger and family of Austria; sister Regina and Bernhard Hallbrainer of Austria; step-brothers Walter and Dagmar Laher and family of Austria; daughters: Susan Wilson of Sherman, Texas, Patricia and Carroll Spaugh of Sherman, Texas, Becky and Herbert Oberholzer of Austria, ten grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, and extended family and friends.
