IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Marie Maxine
Buchanan Cherry Dykes
January 1, 1921 – November 17, 2024
Funeral Services for Maxine, age 103, of Sherman, Tx, will be held at Waldo Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2024. Burial will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman, Texas.
Maxine passed away peacefully Sunday, November 17, 2024. She was born January 1, 1921, the daughter of Harry Donald Buchanan and Jasmine Odessa Marvin Buchanan.
She had been employed by Citizens National Bank in Denison and the Sherman Independent School District, from which she retired. She volunteered at the Sherman Community Hospital, Wilson N. Jones Hospital, Sherman Library and joyously cared for her grandchildren. She enjoyed the Finley Adult Social Club, trips on tour buses, reading, Finley Theater, and any time spent with family. She was a force of nature who could command a room with a single gesture. And she entertained her family with a wicked sense of humor. She was loved and respected by all who knew her and she will be sorely missed by all.
Maxine is preceded in death by her parents, her husbands Glendon Cherry and LeRoy Dykes, special friend Herman Flusche, brothers James D. Buchanan (Loneta), Virgil E. (Gene) Buchanan (Betty), Stepchildren, Mary Ann Melton (Tom), James (Bud) Dykes (Marguariette), and Monte Dykes.
Maxine is survived by her children Daniel Scott Cherry (Deborah), daughter Donna Sue McFadin, stepson Clifton Dykes (Adrienne), grandchildren Alicia Donnette Dodd, Jennifer Morris, John McFadin, Katherine Mastropiero, Teresa Cherry, Velinda Gerfen, Danny Melton, Perry Melton, Jim Dykes, Gina Porter, Kristi Huls, Kim Dykes, and Mark Griffin, 22 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Jim Dykes, Mark Griffin, Justin Morris, Drew Morris, Logan Sims, and Daniel Mastropiero.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society are welcome.
