IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mariellen "Jenny"
Mcgough
July 7, 1954 – October 3, 2023
Our beloved Jenny McGough, born Mariellen Jennifer Graham, passed away peacefully at her home on October 3, 2023, with her three children by her side. Jenny was diagnosed with Glioblastoma in January of 2023 and spent her final months "celebrating life" as she would say.
Jenny was born to John Carl Graham and Jean Graham Wheeler in Nelsonville, Ohio, on July 7, 1954. At the age of nine, she moved to Columbus, Ohio, with her mother Jean and younger sister Jaclyn. Jenny attended North High School in Columbus, Ohio, and was involved in theater. While she dreamed of becoming an actress, her first job was working at a fashion store in downtown Columbus. Jaclyn used to marvel at how glamorous Jenny looked when going to work. She always looked her best and believed that every woman should own a pearl necklace and a bottle of Chanel No.5.
Upon her graduation, Jenny headed to San Diego, Calif., to attend court reporting school. Jenny later returned to Ohio, where she met John McGough. The couple married in 1983 and had three kids: Laura, Dan and Suzanne. Jenny and John raised their family in Powell, Ohio, for many years before purchasing a 100-year-old farmhouse on five acres of land in Delaware, Ohio. Jenny loved to garden, and soon after moving to the farmhouse, she started the Liberty Flower Farm, where she sold dried flowers and handmade wreaths.
Jenny later moved to the Tampa, Fla., area, where she lived until she retired after a 20+ year career as a legal assistant. But when she learned her first grandchild, Zelda, was on the way, she relocated to Texas. Jenny helped care for Zelda until she was 18 months old. Most recently, Jenny bought a home in Sherman, Texas, where she enjoyed spending time with family and sitting on her porch with her cats. In her perfect world, every cat would have a home and every home would have a cat. Jenny loved so many cats during her lifetime, but her greatest love of all was her children and her granddaughter Zelda.
The family would like to thank the Guardian Hospice team, especially our nurse Nikki, who was a continuing source of support. The family would also like to extend its gratitude to the women who helped to care for Jenny during her illness: Amber, Burnis, Susan, McKenzie, and Nina.
Those left to honor Jenny's memory are daughter Laura and Jon Kraynak and granddaughter Zelda of Frisco, Texas; daughter Suzanne and Christopher Stull of Decatur, Ga.; and son Dan McGough of Sherman, Texas. She is also survived by her mother, Jean Wheeler formerly of Sun City Center, Fla.; sister Jaclyn and Dick Mayer of Hillard, Ohio; and many other family members that she loved dearly.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that those who are able instead make a donation to their local animal rescue or https://catmatchers.org/donate. In remembrance of Jenny, we encourage you to plant Jenny's favorite flower, daylilies, in your garden.
