Obituary

Marjorie Smith Abernethy was born in 1925 in South Carolina and passed on July 12. 1926. She was a resident of Sherman from 1957 until she passed. Marge served in the US Navy Reserves, in Naval Intelligence during WW2 and was stationed in Washington DC. Her unit decoded Japanese radio transmissions, locating Japanese ship movements and providing critical data for Naval command. She married Frank Abernethy in High Shoals, NC after the war and they and one son, Dusty. Marge was a long-time member of Forest Avenue Baptist Church. She was a folk-art painter and was very creative in sewing and other artistic pursuits. She taught a number of people and was helper to anyone who needed a hand.

Marge is survived by her son, Dusty, her daughter-in-law, Susan and their 2 sons, Nate and Ben. All of her sisters and brother preceded her in death.

The family expresses a special thanks to the wonderful people at Concho Heart Hospice and to the incredible team at Nanaw’s assisted living in Pottsboro, especially Donna, Heather, Jodi, Carrie and Justin. Marge’s brief stay at Nanaw’s was a time of dignity and care. You have all become a part of the family.

Marge’s primary care physician was a PA at Full Life in Sherman. A very special and sincere thanks to Leslie Jackson. Professional medical care surpassed by kindness, consideration and often laughter.

Marge’s special angel has been, for years, her neighbor, Linda Tarzis, who became a sister and is surely an angel in disguise.

A very brief, temporary, good-bye for now graveside service will be held at West Hill where Marge’s Body will be placed next to her husband. Temporary in the sense that Marge is absolutely going to be present at the resurrection and celebrating in the world to come.
