Martha Ann Townes, of Luella, passed from this life to be with her Lord and Savior in Heaven on March 31, 2023.

She was born in Sherman, Tx, on May 18, 1943, to Dorchester and Zetha Z. (Pedigo) Benedict. She was raised in Sherman and graduated from Sherman High School. She later attended East Texas State University where she earned her bachelor's degree.

Martha married William E. Townes, August 5, 1974. They were married for 40 years, until his death May 9, 2013.

She was a Social Worker with the State of Texas Child Protective Services for over 20 years. Martha loved spending time with her family, studying her Bible, and antique shopping.

She is survived by her sons, David Robert Veazey Jr. of Whitesboro, Tx, Daniel Lee Veazey and daughter in law, Amanda of Plano; stepdaughter; Helen "Michelle Williams of Weston Co; Sisters; Dorzelle Crockett of Howe, Tx, Helen Walters of Whitesboro, Tx; Granddaughters; Sarah A Veazey of Louisville, Ky and Ashton Veazey of Topeka, Ks.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Townes, brothers, George Benedict, and Wendell Benedict.

A Celebration of Martha's Life will be held at 11 am Saturday, April 8, at Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 am prior to the service.
