After getting out of the Air Force, he moved back to Iowa for a short time. He worked for the railroad while there. Max decided he didn't like the winters in Iowa and preferred the Texas weather so he moved back to Sherman in 1956 and has been here ever since.
Max worked for Baker Wholesale for a short while. Then he and his brother-in-law, Del Hagberg, started their own company, Del-Max Restaurant Supply Company in 1964. In 1976, Max decided to become a factory representative to restaurant supply companies. He was in business until he died. He retired for a day at 65, decided that wasn't for him and went back to work the next day.
Max was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sherman. He served as an elder and as Sunday school superintendent for many years. He was a 33rd degree Mason at Travis Lodge #117.
Max led an active full life with no regrets. He had many interests. Many hours were spent on Lake Texoma, camping, boating, and fishing. He loved to go fishing and have a fish fry with family and friends. Max loved to play canasta and 42 with friends. Max liked going to the casinos. He loved to travel and spend vacations with family. He always had a joke to tell as only he could tell.
Max is survived by his brother, Jerry Pratt of Vermillion, SD and his children, Terry Pratt, Shelia Gray of Sherman, Texas, Perry and Becky Pratt of Hempstead, Texas, Sheena and Ken Helvey of Allen, Texas, and stepdaughter, Joni and Larry Duncan of Howe, Texas.
