Obituary

Monty Leroy Reece was born March 15, 1958, to Patricia & Bud Reece at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Ks. After a long health battle, he transitioned to his eternal home to be with the Lord, June 11, 2026, at AHS Sherman Medical Center in Sherman, TX.

Monty is survived by his mother Patricia Reece, daughter Jodi Thomas (husband Josh, grandson JT) - Denison, TX, sons Brandon Reece – Garden City, KS, Evan Reece (wife Deserea, grandson Tate) – Garden City, KS, sister Kyla Plant (husband Donnie) – Alto, TX, multiple nephews, nieces & other family members.

He is preceded in death by his sister Kenda Perez. Monty lived life to the absolute fullest. He cowboyed, rodeoed, trained horses and honky tonked all through his life. Monty loved to dance and could charm anyone out to the dance floor, if you know, you know. Monty’s great passion in life was working with horses. It’s been said he had the softest most patient hands with a horse from a colt that he was earning their trust to fine tuning an older horse. Sitting in a saddle is where you could find hin. Literally a horse whisperer, fingers permanently molded to hold his rope. Monty had a great love for Team Roping and you were hard pressed to find a better heeler. He proudly always wore the buckle he won Team Roping with Lonnie Plankenhorn at Stan Fishers Horse Palace in 1984 as proof!

Monty’s personality was larger than life and he could always get a smile out of you with his sideway grin! Monty is deeply loved and will be incredibly missed!!!

Later this month our close family friend Nicole Roberts is going to take him on one last horse ride and spread his ashes for us to celebrate his life! Please keep his family lifted in prayer!
