He was the oldest of three children, and is survived by his sisters, Mary AnneSimmons, who still lives in Columbus with her husband Larry, and Nancy Watson, who lives inEcuador with her husband Chuck.Norm lived in Texas for a few months when his dad was in training for service in WWII; otherthan that he lived in the same house on 21st street in Columbus until he graduated from JordanHigh School. He grew up playing with his cousins and having Sunday dinner with hisgrandparents, who lived four houses down. He attended the Baptist church and was baptized atthe age of 12. His first job was a morning paper route, and he loved to tell stories about ridingthrough the cold to deliver papers, and stopping at Uncle Johnny’s gas station to warm up.Norm married his high school sweetheart, Judy, in 1959 and they had three children: RebeccaAnn, John Bradley, and Mary Paige. He went to work for Dictaphone in 1960 servicing dictationequipment, and later was given the opportunity to begin selling. At his first regional salesmeeting, Norm’s boss told him to memorize a sales presentation on a new product and present itto the group. Norm did such a good job delivering that sales pitch, his associates applaudedwhen he finished. With that recognition, a salesman was born!Years later Norm was offered a full-time sales position in Savannah, Georgia and the familymoved there and built a house. In 1971, Norm and Judy divorced. In 1974 Norm transferred toTexas, where he met and married his second wife, Nancy, in 1976. They promptly moved toJacksonville, Florida, where he became a branch manager. He and Nancy enjoyed squaredancing, going to the beach, and driving down to Orlando to visit Disneyworld. In 1982 heaccepted a transfer to New Orleans and began selling “the big machines” - reel to reel loggers forrecording 911 calls. While living in LaPlace, Louisiana, and with Norm traveling all over thestate, Nancy gave birth to their son Ben in 1984.In 1990, Norm applied for a transfer back to TEXAS. He and Nancy built a house in Plano andhe continued selling reel-to-reel recorders in the North Texas area. He worked successfully inthat position until his retirement in 2000. After he retired, Norm said it was his turn to “followNancy around” and he was supportive of her ordination to ministry in the Episcopal church, moving first to Dallas and later to Pottsboro and attending St. John’s Episcopal Church there.Norm loved his family, was proud of his years working for Dictaphone, and enjoyed traveling tonew places, especially on a cruise ship. When his declining health in later years made thatimpossible, he still enjoyed going to Huck’s for catfish and watching the Dallas Cowboys playfootball. He passed away on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2026 after a long illness and is survived byhis wife Nancy, his sons Brad and Ben, his grandchildren Emily, Ashley, and Alex, and his great-granddaughter Sawyer.
