IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Nowlin Sutton
Chambers
November 21, 1937 – February 12, 2025
Nowlin Sutton Chambers, age 87, passed away on February 12, 2025 in Denison, Texas.
Nowlin Sutton Chambers was born in Clarksville, TX on November 21st1937 to William Peyton Chambers and Imogene Denison Chambers. He graduated high school from Three Rivers on the South Texas plains.
After high school, Sutton would head to Pecos to work in the oil fields of West Texas for several years before enrolling himself at Southwest Texas University (Texas State). After graduating with a math degree, he enrolled at the University of Houston school of Optometry. Sutton practiced in Commerce and Mckinney before buying his own successful practice in Sherman, TX where he would live out the remainder of his days. He was a true son of Texas. He enjoyed golf, martial arts, trap/skeet, hunting, country music, westerns and just about anything with Clint Eastwood in it.
It was at Southwest Texas that Sutton fell in love with two things. One was the theatre where he would go on to act as lead in several plays. The other was his future wife (Jean) whom he met through one of those plays. They were married August 11, 1962, in a little church in San Antonio and spent almost 60 years together. After retirement, Sutton and Jean took a month-long vacation to California where he rekindled his love of acting. What started with an acting workshop ended with him landing several roles that delayed their return back to Texas for 3 years.
Sutton was preceded in death by his wife Jean Marie Chambers, his parents W. Peyton and Imogene Chambers, and his sister Beverly Urban. He is survived by his children Eric Sutton Chambers and Susan Kathryn Hamilton, his grandchildren Kyler Stone Hamilton, Molly Peyton Chambers, and Owen Sutton Chambers as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
