IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Oler "Ola"
Faye Dehorney
February 5, 1933 – June 1, 2024
After 91 years of a wonderful, well-lived, purposeful life; our dear mother Oler "Ola" Faye Childs DeHorney, passed peacefully on June 1, 2024 at her daughter and son-in-law's residence in McKinney, Texas surrounded by her loving family singing and praising "Walk in the light, beautiful light".
Ola Faye was born February 5, 1933 in Denison, Texas to the late Walter Childs and Jewel Davis Carruth Childs. Both of her parents passed away within six months of each other when she was only 5 years old. Following the passing of her parents, Ola Faye and her other five siblings were blessed to be lovingly raised by her maternal aunt, the late Eddie Davis Gentry also known as Aunt Eddie. Ola Faye professed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age and united with Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of the late Rev. J. T. Fennell. While at Mt. Olive, she was active in Sunday School and Baptist Training Union (BTU), often representing Mt. Olive at the National Baptist Convention. She remained faithful at Mt. Olive until her husband, the late Rev. George. W. DeHorney, Sr. was called into ministry. Ola Faye supported her husband in ministry at Bethel Baptist Church, Bells, Texas; White Rock Baptist Church, White Rock, Texas; and Iron Ore Baptist Church, Denison, Texas. Most recently she enjoyed fellowship at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, Denison, Texas.
Ola Faye was a life-long resident of Denison, attended Langston Elementary School and was a proud graduate of Terrell High School.
After high school, Ola Faye began building a life and family with her husband. Together, they shared fourteen children; nine boys and five girls. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed being at home, working word search puzzles, mowing the grass, working in the yard and reading her daily scriptures. She was a homemaker until after her seventh child was born, at that time, she decided to work outside of the home at Texas Instruments (TI) where she enjoyed a career of more than 25 years.
After retiring from TI, Ola Faye began her volunteer ministry, visiting nursing homes. She faithfully visited three area nursing homes every Saturday morning, providing prayer, conversation, a comforting smile and treats to the residents.
Ola Faye is known for her wisdom and wit. She would consistently encourage her family by saying:
• "Keep on keeping on."
• "You pray for me; I'll pray for you and we'll both pray for others. "
• "Be a job great or small, do it well or not at all. Once the task is first begun do not quit until it's done. "
She was loved dearly and will be deeply missed.
Ola Faye was preceded in death by her husband; son, Richard E. DeHorney, Sr.; sons-in-love, Rev. Jerry L. DeHorney, Sr., Rev. Thurman C. DeHorney, Sr. and Robert L. DeHorney; sisters, Erma J. Childs and Eddie Mae Martin; brothers, James L. Carruth, James W. (Tally) Childs and Edward Childs.
