Opal May Kirk, of Sherman, Texas, passed away at the age of 93 on March 10, 2024.

She was born in Marietta, Oklahoma, on March 15, 1931, the daughter of Eli Randall and Mary (Goodin) McKibban.

She went to school in Love County and later met her future husband who was from Jimtown, Oklahoma. His name was David Morgan Kirk Jr. Opal said she met him at a picture show in Marietta and he asked her to marry him on her 18th birthday. She said yes. David Morgan Kirk Jr and Opal Mae McKibban were married in Gainesville, Texas, on the 2nd day of May in 1948.

Opal spent her life as a housewife and did not work outside of the home. She raised a son and two daughters. She kept busy and was a great mother. Opal loved to crochet, make quilts and all sorts of crafts.

However, on December 19,1985, she lost her husband of 35 years. Opal supported herself by taking care of other people's children in her home. She was loved very much by the children and the families she cared for during that time. Many of those children would stop by to visit her even after they were grown.

She will be missed by all that know her. She was a Christian and attended West Sherman Baptist Church.

Opal is survived by her children, John Kirk, Nancy Peacock, and Norma Schunez. Also surviving are her brother, Kenneth McKibban, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Opal's life will be held at 11 am, Saturday, March 16, in the sanctuary of West Sherman Baptist Church. Rev. Danny Wood of the church will officiate.
