Obituary

Patrick Michael Carroll, Jr. passed away peacefully on April 10, 2023, at home surrounded by family after a short battle with cancer.  Pat loved life, loved living in Texas, and found joy in each day of his 91 years. He has surely been welcomed by Jesus and many others in Heaven.

The highlight of his life was when at the age of 14 he met the love of his life and best buddy, "Deannie Darling" as he called her. They married in 1953 and this September would have been married 70 years.  They were blessed with three little girls, DiAnn, Lesa, and Kellye.  Life at the Carroll house was filled with faith, family, fun, and football. What a great time it was.

Pat was born on February 2, 1932, in Kansas City, Kansas to Patrick, Sr. and Catherine Carroll. A precocious and active boy, he attended St. Rose of Lima Elementary School, Maur Hill High School, and Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas where he earned his BS in Physical Education with a minor in Biology.  During high school and college, he excelled in several sports, but especially football where he played quarterback, running back, and punted.  For one week he held the national record for longest punt. Although he received try-out invitations for several NFL teams, he chose to move on to the University of North Texas (Mean Green) in Denton, TX where he earned his master's degree. He continued his education at the University of Iowa (Hawkeyes) and the University of Colorado Boulder (Buffaloes) coming one dissertation short of a doctorate.

Pat's career as an educator began as an elementary level adaptive PE teacher. From there he moved to a position as a middle school PE teacher and eventually he became a high school math teacher and football coach. Later he moved into administration and served as a vice principal and then a principal. His career concluded as Assistant Superintendent for the Grossmont Union High School District which consisted of ten high schools.

Pat's most important legacy is his family: his wife Deannie, daughters DiAnn, Lesa, and Kellye.  Sons- in- law Allen Hill, Chris Valentine (deceased), and Danny Henley.  Grandchildren Patrick (Hannah), Erin, Danny (Cherry), Brenna-Marie, and Rhodes. Great-grandchildren Abigail, Susannah, Levi, Kyjah, Caleb, Joey, Peter, and Celia.
