Peggy Joyce Dagenais, 87, passed away peacefully at her home with her husband Ray of nearly 68 years and her family at her bedside. She went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 20, 2026.
Peggy Joyce Dagenais was born to Edwin and Nina Ooten on April 13, 1939, in Savoy, TX. She met Raymond while he was stationed at Perrin AFB and they were married in Phoenix, AZ on June 28, 1958. She was the love of his life. She lived in Glendale, AZ. and Myrtle Beach, S.C., while Ray was stationed in the Air Force. After the service they settled in her hometown of Sherman, TX where she lived the remaining years of her life. She was a graduate of Sherman High School in 1957. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. As her children entered school she went to work for Pool Manufacturing Co, as a seamstress. After leaving Pools, she went to work for the Sherman Independent School District in the Fairview and Wakefield school cafeterias. Cooking for the children was one of the many joys in her life. She was a loving and devoted wife to her husband Ray, and the best mother in the world to her children. She was gentle, kind, patient and very wise. She looked for the best in everyone and always put others before herself. She loved family dinners and was known for her wonderful cakes and cookies. She loved Sonic stops, drives, and going on vacation with her family. She was a member of West Sherman Baptist Church for 44 years. She left a legacy of love and care for others which originated from her love of Jesus. She is now walking in heaven and has made a lasting difference in multiple generations. She is known as Memaw by all her family and will be deeply missed by her husband Ray and family.
She is survived by her husband Raymond. Son Michael Dagenais and wife Thelma, daughter, Diana Crutcher and husband Dale. Daughters Genevieve Dagenais and Sheryl Dagenais. Grandchildren, Marcie Laroche and husband Troy, Mari Ann Lewis and husband Mark, Matthew Moser and wife Caroline, Steven Crutcher, Brian Crutcher and wife April, Maegan Glover and husband James, Great grandchildren, Madison Hammel, Jayden Dagenais, Alexis Castle, Garrett and Emily Glover. Peggy’s sister Shirley Woodson, brother Gerald Ooten, sister-in-laws Ann Ooten and Joyce Ooten along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Nina Ooten, Brother-in-law Gene Woodson, brother Wayne Ooten and wife Barbara, Sister Lila Ooten, Sister in law Onita Ooten, Brothers Larry Ooten and Donnie Ooten and granddaughter Micahlea Dagenais.
Services will be held at West Sherman Baptist Church with family visitation at 12:00, and funeral service at 1:00. A brief graveside service will be held at Cedarlawn Memorial Park after the service.
In lieu of flowers please make donations to Hospice Plus or West Sherman Baptist Church. The family wishes to express their thanks to Hospice Plus staff, with special thanks to Kenny, Kelly, and Arlene who cared for our mother with kindness and compassion.
