Funeral Services for Peggy Preston, who passed away in her Sherman home on July 30, 2024, will be held at Pathway Church of God on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. Don Russell of the Pathway Church of God in Sherman will officiate. Interment will be in the Van Alstyne Cemetery.
Peggy was born on May 24, 1936, in Van Alstyne, Texas and was the daughter of Sam and Blanch (Thornton) Cromer. She graduated from Van Alstyne High School in 1954 where she had been a member of the Panther's Pep Squad, having served as a drummer and a majorette. In 1954 she married Billy Don Douglas in Van Alstyne. They were married for 34 years and had two children – Randy and Kathy. In 1993 she married Garry Preston, Sr. She was a charter member of the First Christian Church in Sherman, and in later years attended the First Assembly of God and later joined Pathway Church of God. She worked as a secretary for 34 years for Anderson Clayton/Kraft Foods until they were sold in 1994 and then worked as listing secretary for Virginia Cook Realtors for 18 years. Her favorite past time was clogging. She had been a member of the Country Cousin Cloggers, Cannonball Cloggers, and Thunderbolt Cloggers, having performed at the Dallas State Fair and the Riverwalk in San Antonio and in competitions in Houston, Oklahoma City and at Silver Dollar City in Branson, Missouri. Besides reading her Bible, she enjoyed working crossword puzzles, crypto quotes and playing Nintendo Games.
She was preceded in death by Garry Preston, her husband of 27 years, her parents, Sam and Blanch Cromer, two sisters, Jennie Powell and Lois Strother, one brother, Raymond Cromer, and a stepson, Jeffrey Preston.
Survivors include her son, Randy Douglas and his wife Darla of Sherman, daughter Kathy Melton and her husband Rusty of Howe, one stepson, Garry Preston Jr. and his wife Penny of Fort Worth, four grandsons, Chris Douglas and his wife Taylor of Whitewright, Dusty Melton and his wife Ashley of Howe, Josh Bosch and his husband Joel of Anna, Texas, Corey Douglas and fiancé Veronica Garrett of Sherman and numerous great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, nieces and a nephew.
Pallbearers will be Grandsons and Great-grandsons, Chris Douglas, Dusty Melton, Josh Bosch, Corey Douglas, Joel Bosch, Heath Quisenberry, Landon Douglas and Dillon Douglas.
Family night will be on Friday, August 2, 2024, at Waldo Funeral Home from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
