Penelope (Penny)
Minerva Jones
February 24, 1938 – April 2, 2023
Penelope M. Jones
Sherman – Funeral services for Penelope M. Jones will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday April 6 at Waldo Funeral home. A graveside service will follow in the Veteran's Section of the West Hill Cemetery; Rev. Bill Lee will officiate both services. Mrs. Jones passed away Sunday April 2 at the age of 85.
Penelope Minerva Jones (aka Penny), daughter of Bernice Hopkins and Oma Richardson Hopkins, was born on February 24, 1938, in Vernon, Texas. She grew up in Waco Methodist Children's Home where she attended Waco Texas High School. Penny spent much of her life as a homemaker and stay-at-home mother. Later in life, she worked for and retired from Austin College in Sherman, Texas.
Penny lived a devoted life as a Christian and spread her joy for Jesus to everyone she knew. She was a mother and nanny to everyone she came in to contact with. Her favorite color was purple, and she kept her collection of angels on display in the living room. Penny loved to sing gospel music, garden, and spend time with her family. She never missed an opportunity to gather the family together so they may share their love and warmth for one another. Penny was a prayer warrior; she would lead the family in prayer at every meal and gathering. She was the matriarch of the family and will be missed by everyone she met.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her three children, John Wesley Jones III of Sherman, Donna Bonine and fiancé Jimmy Wise of Denison, Cynthia McMillin and husband Gary of Bells; many adopted sons and daughters; an ever-growing number of grandchildren and greatgrandchildren, be it through birth, marriage, or adoption; her brother, Emory Hopkins of Oklaunion; and her sister, Amy Jean Grammar of Enid. She is preceded in death by her husband Keith K Jones; her parents; her sister, Jewel Abston; and her 3 brothers, John David Hopkins, Lois Hopkins, and Jessie Hopkins.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:oo PM Wednesday April 5 at Waldo Funeral Home.
