Obituary

Mrs. Leeman passed away on June 10, 2026. She was 90 years old. Rachel was born on February 29, 1936, in Ravenna, Texas. She is one of seven daughters born to the late Lester and Florence (Waddle) Horn.

She attended Savoy Public Schools all twelve years graduating in 1954 as Valedictorian of her class. After graduation, Rachel attended North Texas Business College while working for Texas Telephone Company in Sherman. In Sherman, she met her true love at the Finley Play House where they were both performing. On September 10, 1955, she married William Robert (Bob) Leeman at First Baptist Church in Bonham, Texas. She worked for De Rose Industries in the accounting department for seven years. In 1968, Rachel and Bob moved to Los Angeles, California. She attended Santa Monica College in Santa Monica, California and UCLA in Los Angeles, California, majoring in accounting.

She retired from ICI Americas, West Coast Division in Los Angeles after 22 years of service as Payroll Manager. After retiring, Rachel and Bob moved back to Sherman to be near family. She loved to travel and had visited many foreign countries. They continued to travel after retirement. She loved her church. She was an active member of North Park Baptist Church. For many years, she delivered tapes of the Sunday morning service to those who could not attend. She loved visiting the elderly. She also worked with SHARE ministries feeding the hungry. She was an active member of the Golden Agers, Tripple L Club, GTE Pioneer Club, and Sherman Art League. Rachel loved to paint and took art lessons for many years. She liked to piece quilts and work with her flowers. Her greatest pleasure in life was her church and her family. She loved people and liked to entertain.

Rachel is survived by her sister Helen Barron of Sherman, nieces Ann Belzung of Longview, Charla Ruth of Longview, Linda Williams of Sherman, Valerie Huntsberry of Azle, Texas, Leslie Pratt of Sherman, nephews, Forest Lee Kennedy of Greenville, Texas, Donald Kennedy of Austin, Texas, Jerome Lair of Lufkin, Texas and Dennis Fagan of San Pablo, California, and many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, five sisters, two nephews and a niece.

Funeral services for Rachel Nadine Horn Leeman will be held on June 16, 2026, at 10 a.m. at North Park Baptist Church in Sherman, Texas. David Murphy will officiate. The burial will follow at Willow Wild Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 7 p.m. Monday, June 15, 2026, at Waldo Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the North Park Baptist Church Building Fund at 2605 Rex Cruise Drive, Sherman, Texas 75092.
