A memorial service for Rhonda Annette Riley 49, will be held Thursday, December 30, 2010 at 11:00 AM in the Waldo Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Bryant McGee of the Redeemer Presbyterian Church of McKinney will officiate. Pallbearers will be Rod Riley, Ken Riley, Don Riley, Rick Todd, Mark Pinion and Robert Moore. Waldo Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Rhonda passed away quietly on December 23, 2010 at her residence in Carrollton, TX. Rhonda was born on July 10, 1961 in Sherman, TX to Larry Riley and Martha Hood Riley. She graduated from Sherman High School and worked part-time at May Pharmacy in downtown Sherman.
Rhonda had many interests and enjoyed outdoor activities. She was an avid and accomplished softball player. She loved boating, water skiing, and animals. She volunteered much of her time at the SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) in Ardmore, OK and the Equestrian Therapeutic Riding Center for disabled children in Wylie, TX.
Rhonda was a dedicated and hard working person. She had a rewarding career as a Traffic Control Officer with the city of Farmers Branch. While employed there in 1990, she volunteered with the Special Olympics and was recognized for her work by her superiors. When living in South Carolina, she was employed by Eurodrive and edited their company newsletter. For the last few years, Rhonda enjoyed her work as a veterinary technician.
Rhonda was a caring and compassionate person who never shied away from helping others. She will be missed, but we rejoice in the knowledge that she is at peace residing in her heavenly mansion.
She is survived by her parents Martha Gessick of McKinney, TX and Larry Riley of Denison TX; step-father John Gessick of Pottsboro, TX; sister Robin Riley of Frisco, TX; brothers Rod Riley of Gibson, NC and Rick Gessick of Las Vegas NV; nephews Kobe Gessick and Hunter Dale; niece Kiyana Gessick and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A family visitation will be held from 6:00 - 7:30 PM Wednesday, December 29th at Waldo Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA.
