ROBERT L. ?BOB? HAYES
Robert Llewellyn ?Bob? Hayes of Sherman died on Friday, January 11, 2008, at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman at age 79. Funeral services will be held at Hagerman Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 16, at 2:00 p.m. Reverend Shawn Kemp of the church will officiate, assisted by Reverend Rocky Pope of Mimosa Lane Baptist Church, Mesquite, Texas. Burial will follow at Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Services are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons: Derin Hayes, Craig Hayes, Jesse Hayes, Micah Hayes, Casey Hayes, Jeremy McEwen, and Jason McEwen.
Mr. Hayes was born in Binghamton, New York, on September 6, 1928, to parents Llewellyn Leroy Hayes and Mildred Barnum Hayes. He married Helen Rowlands in 1949. Following service in the U.S. Navy, Mr. Hayes worked as a draftsman for International Business Machines (IBM) in Sherman, from which he retired in February, 1976. He subsequently worked at Kraft Foods, K-Mart, and most recently Starbucks in Sherman. He was a member of Hagerman Baptist Church and was an avid fan of old movies, especially westerns.
Preceded in death by his wife Helen in November, 1996, daughter Karen Ann Hayes, brother Willard Hayes, and grandson Ryan David Hayes, Mr. Hayes is survived by five children: Cheryl Lumpkins and husband Eddie of Jacksonville, Texas; Michael Hayes and wife Jan of Columbia, Tennessee; Richard Hayes; David Hayes and wife Marcia; Kay McEwen and husband Jeff, all of Sherman; and best friend for the last nine years, Loneta Covey of Sherman.
He is also survived by brother, Roger Hayes of South Montrose, Pennsylvania; sisters Carolyn Taro of Friendsville, Pennsylvania, and Audrey Gilchrist of Mt. Airy, Maryland; 12 grandchildren: Kim Foster of Stephenville, Texas; Kristy Little of Jacksonville, Texas; Derin Hayes of Plantation, Florida; Tisha Hundley of Aubrey, Texas; Craig Hayes of Dallas, Texas; Jesse Hayes, Micah Hayes, and Jason McEwen, all of Sherman; Casey Hayes of Lubbock, Texas; Ashley Hayes of McKinney, Texas; Jeremy McEwen of Fraser, Colorado; and Jaime Bentley of College Station, Texas; and four great-grandchildren: Jessey Lumpkins, Jayden Little, Ashleigh Hayes, and Cayden Hundley; and several nieces and nephews.
