Obituary

Rodney (Rod) Joseph Reichelt, 89, U.S. Air Force retired veteran completed his earthly journey being honorably discharged and released into eternal life on December 1, 2024.

Rod, the first child of Orville Joseph Reichelt and Grace Frisby Reichelt, was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on his mothers birthday, March 15, 1935. He grew up on a farm with three siblings, Joan, Janet and Steve, in a loving home with Christian values. He graduated from St.Thomas Military Academy High School in St. Paul Minnesota in 1951.

He joined the US Air Force. While stationed in Madison, Wisconsin, he met and married Carol Ann Hughes. Their 66 plus years together included many memories, three wonderful sons, five grandchildren and three great children. Rod's twenty-one years in the USAF moved the family to many places they enjoyed and built lasting memories they still cherish of each home.

After retiring from the USAF in 1975, the family moved to Sherman, Texas. He co-owned a Real Estate Agency. He worked for the Grayson County Appraisal District until retirement. Many knew and loved Rod in his service to St. Mary's Parish, as a proud volunteer at Perrin Military Museum and a Third and Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Rod was reunited in death with his sons, Brian and Jeff Reichelt; his parents, Orville and Grace Reichelt; his sister, Sister Joan Riechelt; in laws: Frank and Katherine Hughes; Sally (Russ) and their daughter Kelly Gersterkor; and Robert Hughes.

Rod is survived by his loving wife, Carol, their son Kevin Reichelt, five grandchildren: Chrystie, Dustin (Kristin), Eric, Marissa and Brandon and three great grandkids: Blakleigh, Brantley and Atticus; Brother, Steve Reichelt; sister Janet (Dan) Wald; Sister-in-law Barbara (Joe) Dalton; plus many nieces and nephews.

Rod was a devoted husband, loving father and cherished friend. We were all blessed to have been a part of his life. The emptiness his passing leaves in our hearts can only be filled with happy memories of his life.
