Obituary

Ronald Backschies,86 was at his home in Pottsboro, TX when he joined his heavenly family on Sunday evening, December 22, 2024.

Born in St. Louis Missouri on July 29, 1938 to Harold and Mary Backschies. Ron was the only brother to 3 sisters. His mother lovingly called him "The rose amongst the thorns".

Ron attended St. Louis schools before enlisting in the United States Air Forcee where he proudly served for 23 years, retiring in 1978 as s SMSgt E-8.

His training consisted of Command NCO academy, USAF recruiting and NCO Academy. He also earned his Bachelors degree in Business. As a veteran, Ron was often thanked for his service. His reply was "thank you, I would do it all again".

His second career began in Abilene where he met his wife of 40 years and mother of their 3 children,Barbara Ann Backschies. Ron was employed by Texas lnstruments(TI) and transferred to Sherman, TX where he became the Human Resource Manager. He was very instrumental in the transition and start up of MEMC. Ron retired after 21 years of devoted employment.

Ron was very passionate about anything he decided to do. His determination and work ethic rose him to top levels. Before leaving for the USAF, he was chosen among his teammates to represent them in the 1955 Khoury Baseball Association's All-Star competition at Busch stadium in St.Louis. Being an avid sports fan, he watched the Dallas Cowboys, Gunter Tigers football,St. Louis cardinals and Texas Rangers baseball, golf and fishing were among the many sports that he enjoyed.

Ron is survived by his wife of 21 years, Rebecca Backschies. One sister, Barbara Keen of MO. His oldest son, David Backschies, daughter, Kari Placke (husband Tim) of MO and son, Dennis Backschies of Howe TX and Robin Jones of Denison TX (husband Chris). He is known as Pawpaw to 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He has Several nieces and nephews who lovingly addressed him as Uncle Ronnie.

Ron was preceeded in death by his parents Harold and Mary Backschies, his late wife, Barbara Ann Backschies, Sisters Margie Grenia and Diane Hanes of MO and Uncle Jimmy Sanna also of MO.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2025 @ 2:00 at Waldo Funeral Home, followed by a reception in the Friends and Family building which are both located at 619 North Travis street in Sherman Texas.

Ron will be buried with full military honors at Memorial Park in St. Louis Missouri on January 6, 2025.

Ron Backschies was a family man. He shaped and guided many careers in which sons and grandsons followed in his footsteps to the United States military. He was a prime example of dedication, hustle and hard work. He will be missed by many and loved forever by those who knew him well.
