Obituary

Ronald W Mailes was born on January 11, 1933 at home in Newton County, Missouri. The Lord called him home on the evening of December 27, 2022. Ron led a very busy life during his 89 years. The most important part of his life involved his family, friends and travel.  He was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Opal Mailes, his wife Sammie Lou Mailes, his daughter Melissa Mailes, his grandson Grant Garza, and his brothers Roy, Jim, and Eldon Mailes, and sister Norma Welker.

He is survived by his son R Mark Mailes (Suzanne) of Houston, two grandchildren, Amanda Garza Perez and Gregory Garza, and two great-grandsons, Jayson Perez and Dylan Perez all of Austin, TX.

Ron was highly regarded basketball player. He attended Pittsburg State College in Kansas on a scholarship.  He left college to join the Air Force during the Korean War and served his country proudly.  After his return from overseas, he married the love of his life, Sammie Lou. When he was discharged from the Air Force, he returned to Pittsburg State and completed his teaching degree. Later he also completed his master's degree at University of Kansas.  He served as a coach, teacher, counselor and school administrator in his 36 years as an educator.  After retiring from Sherman ISD, he began his second career as a professional traveler, forming SR Travel.  SR Travel allowed Ron and Sammie to lead guided group tours all around the United States and many foreign countries and blessed them to form and maintain many wonderful friendships.
