Obituary

Ronald Glen Ireland, known by most as Ronnie, was called home on October 24, 2024, at the age of 71 while surrounded by generations of loving family members. Ronnie was born on January 7th, 1953, in Sherman, Texas, to Margaret Elizabeth Smith and Herold Ray Ireland. His grandmother, grandfather, mother, father, and brother proceeded him in death.
He graduated from high school in Van Alstyne, Tx class of 1971. He went on to join the U.S. Army National Guard where he served state side during the Vietnam War and was involved in burial services of fallen soldiers. Later in life he attended Grayson County College where he received his EMT/Haz-Mat certification and graduated from the Grayson Firefighter Academy. He was also a proud member of the Howe Volunteer Fire Department and served as an EMT and first responder for many years.
He had many occupations through the years including The City of Van Alstyne as a police officer, Texas Waste Management, Magni-Fab in Howe, security for Securitas, and Texas Instruments to name a few.
He is survived by his sister Paula, 4 children, Shannon, Karmen, Josh, and Justin, 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and another one on the way, as well as his best friend, Jan Boogaloo in Denmark and many more supportive friends and family.
Ronnie would often fill the room with jokes, sarcasm, and laughter. He was sometimes difficult to keep quiet in a crowded space; he was rarely short of words. He was outgoing, friendly, respectful, and well-spoken but also bashful and reserved when the time called for it.
He was an active member in church at A Christian Fellowship in Sherman, TX. He spoke highly of his church family and attributed much of his health and happiness to those close to him in the congregation. He was truly a messenger of the teachings of Jesus Christ and always eager to show others the way to salvation.
Crematory services have been made through Waldo Funeral Home in Sherman, TX. A memorial service will be held at his place of worship, A Christian Fellowship, 150 Fellowship Ln. Sherman, Texas 75090. The memorial will be held on Sunday, November 17th. Lunch will be at 12:00 for those who would like to join, and the memorial will be at 1:00.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to his church, A Christian Fellowship. The family is sincerely grateful for all your thoughts and prayers as well as the loving support of his church family.
