IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Roxie Colleen
Summers
July 22, 1933 – January 7, 2024
Roxie Colleen Summers, 90, of Sherman, Texas, peacefully transitioned from this life into the loving arms of her Savior, Jesus, on January 7, 2024.
Born on July 22, 1933, to Blanche and Herschel Waldman in Agra, Oklahoma, Roxie embodied the resilience and strength of a farmer's daughter raised during the challenging era of the Great Depression. After graduating from Chandler High School in 1950, she embarked on a career as a secretary with DX Petroleum Corporation in Tulsa, Oklahoma. During her time at DX, fate intervened, and Roxie crossed paths with Alvin Summers, her future father-in-law. It was through Alvin that she met the love of her life, Emmett Summers, a dashing fighter pilot. Love blossomed, leading to their union on December 20, 1958.
Relocating to Houston and later settling in Sherman, Texas, Roxie and Emmett built a life together, welcoming their sons Bruce in 1962 and Todd in 1964. Roxie, a devoted Christian, found solace and community at the First Baptist Church in Sherman, where she remained an active member for many years.
Roxie was a force of strength and productivity, faithfully managing her role as a wife, mother, and rock of the family. An exceptional cook and gracious host, she made everyone feel welcome with her Southern hospitality. Beyond her family life, Roxie was an avid bridge player and a dedicated gardener, contributing to the vibrant atmosphere of their welcoming home on Shoreline Dr.
Roxie is preceded in death by her parents Herschel and Blanche Waldman, her brother John, and sister Margie.
Roxie is survived by her loving husband Emmett, sons Bruce and Todd, and her sister Patricia. Also, she is survived by four grandchildren: Jason, Maria, Bruce Alvin, and Ana. Grandmother Roxie was also a proud great-grandmother of four great-grandchildren: Carter, Jayda, Emilia, and Eleanor.
A family visitation is on Friday, January 12, from 6-8 pm at Waldo Funeral Home. A celebration of Roxie's life will be held at West Hill Cemetery, Sherman Texas on January 13, at 11 am.
